Default B16A2 Del Sol Idle Surge problem.

This is not my car it is for a customer so my info is limited on what exactly it has on it besides the engine and ecu. I remember reading something about a guy with a similar situation supposedly he had to have some sort of chip burned into the ecu in order to fix the idle. Has anyone seen this on the web? I remember finding it on google awhile a go but I can't remember the name of the site or what I searched for, if anyway has the site or knows what chip it post away. Its using the B16a3 ecu. thanks

Clean the little filter in the IACV with a solvent, it works 50% of the time.

Yup, clean it out, and if that doesn't work try to swap IACVs with another honda and see if the IACV is the problem. Takes a second to do if ya have another honda laying around. goodluck.

Ok, this might sound dumb, but what is a IACV? I had a shop to tell me to change my FICV. (Fast Idle Control Valve)

Idle and air control valve. Are you guys sure it could be this? hmmm I'll tell him to look at it but for some reason I still think the problem is in the ECU the idle surge is consistant.

i would be like everyone else and say search, b/c there is so much info on it, but heres your answer:

Hondas are notorious for having problems with the idle air control valve (IACV). When your engine is cold or when the A/C is running, the IACV should open & kick up the rpm's. But when the control valve malfunctions it'll keep opening & closing, causing the idle to go up & down.

IACV problems will cause constant up and down idling. like i said, if ya got another honda around, just swap it out of it real quick. I think its like only 2 small screws. did it to my boys car and answered our questions.

I changed the control valve that is under the throttle body. It's been called a number of things.

I've done many things to my car and don't know exactly what the problem could be. I've also done a few things to make it go away. It could be a vacuum leak. Could be that something isn't tightened properly. Could have something to do with idle. Could be an ECU problem.

There are MANY post about this thing happening. No resolutions so far.

IACV is on the back of the IM and is held on by two bolts. It also has two small hoses (if I recall correctly) on the bottom of it, I know one of mine had coolant in it. Sorry I cant explain it better, I haven't touched the thing in a year.

I've been experiencing the same thing and it's gotten so annoying I'm down to my last nerve. I hate sitting at a stoplight when my car starts idling crazy and people think I'm revving at them I've done my share of researching and found this post that should help us out:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=638569

It talks about cleaning the IACV and adjusting the screw in the FITV. Sounds promising, I'm going to try it out tomorrow. Hopefully it works!

That's what I've changed. What surprises me is that there are a LOT of people out there with this problem. How come everyone doesn't know what the problem is?

The problem with mine is that I'll mess with something (that shouldn't fix it) and the problem will go away for months. It came back when I had Sears check my battery. I thought my battery was dead, but the starter was going bad.

I took the shaft out of the starter and realized that the place I was going to take it to needed the whole thing. Since I didn't have a breaker bar, I couldn't get it off. So I put everything back on and it has started ever since. AND the idle has settled down.

I can't figure out why, what I did, could have fixed the problem. It has NOTHING to do with the idle. The only thing I can think of is that there was an electrical problem with the contacts and it was messing up the whole electrical system. I'm not sure if that would have anything to do with it, but like I said before, I work on different things and it seems to go away.

Try this on the end of the fuel rail theres a **** looking thing that takes the pulse out of the gas pull the cap of it and make sure the little screw in the end is tight.
