Default b16a2 to b18c1 swap for my 00 Si. been searching. no answers

Hey guys, usually i am not a big honda fan, but i bought my civic for gas mil. a buddie of mine just bought a wrecked 97 GSR for a good deal, and he is going to let me have the motor, trans, ecu, harness, EVERYITNG out of the engine bay for 1800. the motor has 76k miles on it. it has an aftermarket clutch, and exhust from the teg, which im sure i cant use.

so i need to know what to change to get the motor into my 00 civic Si. i dont know what to change as far as wiring, or ecu's. i hear i need to an obd1 conversion, but i wanted to see what you guys thought of all of it.

anyting that should be done while the motor is out of the car?

i plan on selling the b16a2 when its running again, if anyone is interested.

thanks guys!

should be plug and play.. and at 76k miles your not due for a timing belt of anything yet. i would flush coolant, change oil, and maybe new plugs

me and a buddy did the swap. its easy. you will use everything from the civic as in the mounts and wiring harness. the wiring harness will need to be fitted to the GSR but it really isnt much. you mite have to wire the secondary butterfly up with the vtec switch. thats what we did. but if you can use the gsr computer then just hard wire the sec butterfly to the computer using the pin numbers. Honda-garage.org can help you with all that. but b series is b series, all interchangable. you could think about switching the heads and put the b16 head on the gsr block, i've been told it gives more compresion, something like a poor man type R. that civic will run like a dream once its done.

poor mans type r is a gsr block with a b16 head along with type r cams... if i were you it would be very wise to keep the b16 trans and just swap in the gsr motor... i hope you can understand why shorter gearing would be beneficial... then you can sell the gsr trans cuz a lot of people are always looking to upgrade there ls

Just unbolt the Gsr intake manifold and remove the butterflys. It runs just fine without them.

sorry to threadjack this but, the b16 would be a better trans because of the shorter gears? I thought b16 and b18c1 trannies were almost the same. how much is the rpm difference in 5th say at given mph?

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by airborne63B &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">you could think about switching the heads and put the b16 head on the gsr block, i've been told it gives more compresion, something like a poor man type R.</TD></TR></TABLE>

the b16 head will not yeild u more compression. the gsr heas has a smaller combustion chamber which inturn will bump the comp ratio up. but yes a poor mans type-r is a gsr bottom end with a b16 head.

the ecu of the gsr makes the vtec crossover around 4400. since the cross/switchover is so low, you wont really be able to hear vtec. most of the time, gsr's get louder around 5800, when the secondaries open, and people thinks that is the vtec.

but anyway, if it were me, i'd remove the secondaries and get a obd2---&gt;obd1 converter and get a chipped p28... or just run your b16 ecu. haha good luck.
