I have a 99 Honda civic si with a 5th gen. motor. i blew the motor on it and I just bought a 4th gen b16a2 from japan. I want to know how do i connect the ecu to this new engine? i dont see any wires on the engine for it. Do I have to get an adaptor? If so where can i purchase one?

I have an obd2 ecu that is in there stock. Would I need to change the ecu to a obd1 also?

You still haven't answered my question. Would I need to change the ECU to from an obd2 to an obd1 also?

ok for 1 there is no such motor as a jdm b16a2, if its jdm its just B16

now for 2 you dont have to switch to obd1, its usually a better route to go but you can just use the stock ecu. you will need to put your wire harness onto the new motor. a few things may need to be added or changed but it should be easy.

It may be easier just to use your stock distributor and intake manifold

First of all your Si should be a 6th gen to begin with, not a 5th gen. 5th gens are 92-95.

Also I really wish people would stop calling B16A2 motors JDM, and calling actual JDM "second-gen" engines "B16A2" - it gets super annoying becuse you never know what engine they actually have.

Is your engine a B16A2, or is it a JDM second-gen B16A?

use your stock engine harness to wire the new engine. if something doesn't plug in, just replace that part with a part from your blown engine. THATS IT. you'll probably want to use the following parts from your blown engine: intake manifold, throttle body, altenator, injectors

Okay if it's going into your 99-00 Civic Si, then you will need to use your engine harness and your intake manifold, injectors, distributor, and oil pump housing because it houses the OBD2 crank fluctuation sensor - the JDM engine will not have that sensor. you'll probably also want to keep your alternator, because I think the plugs are different - one is round, one is square.

Other than that it's plug and play really.
