Default b16a1 tags with the d16z6 to come in the ring.

Is the b16 worth putting in a Civic coupe. My engine right now is the stock d16z6, it leaks a little oil and has 142,000. Or should I opt for the b18c swap? Even though it is about 1500 to 2000 more for about 15 hp more. I found some b16a's for about 1250 which I believe is a good price.

IMHO, if you are going to go through swapping a new engine in your 5th gen, wait a little longer and save up for a b18. Those .2 liters make a big difference. I know a handfull of guys who didn't want to spend the extra cash for a b18 and within months get tired of their b16. Don't get me wrong, the b16 is a great engine but from my experience, most hybriders with b16's end up FI'ing their powerplant or selling it for the b18.

How about a H22a they have .4 more liters than a b18 and have higher tq numbers. But can they be made daily drivable? I heard they have cooling problems or something to do with that.

for one thing, it seems like the B16 u looking at might be a cable transmission which would make it very costly to put into your current hydro transmission. If you want to get the H22 in your car, ur gonna have to do mount relocation and its gonna create some understeer in your car.

I would opt for the B18C motor. The extra torque is worth it IMO. If you have the money, go for the B18C5 (type R) motor. Good luck in your decision.

any suggestions for how to get a motor like that? I called a local salvage yard and said I can get a GSR motor for around $2300. I could get a h22a from them for about $1700 but it seems as if though after that swap that car is not daily drivable. Are these the best prices for acquiring these motors? Another question How does a motor swap affect the overall worth of my car? Does it significantly raise the value of just about $500. I would suppose it would depend on motor.

Yeah the 1250 B16 Sounds Like First GEN b16 with a Cable Tranny.... Not that it wouldn't work... Too many people Prematurely ditch the B16 for the bigger brother b18c but I think either one of these engines would be a GREAT platform to build from.

Sure we could start the age old argument about B16 va B18... Bang for the Bick Cost verses Building....But we have been down that road.... Do a search and see for yourself.

Let me save you some hassel and reading...

Question: B16 or B18 (Word it how you want it's all the same question leadds to the same discussion and ALL the same answers.)

Answer 1: Yeah B16 will Work But B18 has more Torque (DUH!!)
Answer 2: No replacement for dispalcement!!!
Answer 3 : I have B16 and I like it just fine
Answer 4 : B18c man B16 Sucks ut has no Torque
Answer 5 : What 15 Hp for 1200 bucks??? Not worth IMO
Answer 6 : Forget the B18 do an H22 swap
Answer 7 : H22 Swap is too heavy handels like crap
Answer 8 : LS/VTEC Man
Answer 9 : B20 Vtec Owns
Answer10: Frakenstein Engines are not reliable
Answer11: Yes they are I have had mine fr 2 weeks and only one oil leak
Answer12: I Like the B16
Answer13: GET NAAAAWS
and the list goes on and on and on

Point I am trying to make... Most people on the WEB board or any other are lazy.. Don't want to "Build" CRAP!! The Potential of an engine is LIMITED by her builder (Be it Skill, or Money)
All is just personal opinion.... Get an engine a SLAP it in ( general consensis here) If it doesn't Snap your neck on take off then it is JUNK... That why you have so many FREAKS Buying brand new Civic Si (99-00) and Swaping the engine out within months of buying the car.... (Didn't you test drive the thiing? )
Best advise I can give.... Is Make you own decision, Know what you want BEFORE you buy it and Be happy with your purchase.... There is NO HONDA engine for 3000 or less that will snap your neck on take off... You want that kinda of Power GET A NISSAN

I would like to have it where it is easy to kill a 5.slow and make camaros ashamed of themselves. We have a lot of 80's cars here in my town and it is disgusting. If I see another cutlass I am going to go postal. Not much of an import scene here in my town either but what do you expect from a town of 5,000.

there are so many b16's out there , just make sure you buy the right ones. lots of peeps on ebay are selling the older b16's, while im sure they are legit, are still old. if you are gonna get one, try to either get a whole package from some supplier or do like i did and piece it together yourself and learn something in the process. good luck!
