b16a1-ef9's EK build thread
This is my '97 Civic CX. I acquired it almost 4 years ago and it's been through alot of builds. The car is primarily used as my daily driver. When I say daily I mean daily. I use it even in the winter!
Where should I start lol. At first when I first bought the car I decided to build a motor for it right away. The first build was an LS/VTEC all motor on TWM ITB's and a Rage Header. Compression was really high for a street car due to cutting the head soooo much and the pr3 pistons. At first on stock b16a cams until I could afford Skunk2 cams. With stock LS headers we got 155 whp, with the rage header we got 177 whp and finally with the Skunk2 cams made highest of 208 whp.
After playing with all motor, I decided I need more jam. The car was quick but just not quick enough.
From there I acquired a Jackson Racing Supercharger for a b16 which I adapted to fit the LS/VTEC, the compression remained the same. I ran a 10 psi pulley setup with no water/meth. I know I could have pulled a bit more power out of this setup with the meth but I didn't keep this setup long enough to play with it. The best power made to date on this setup was 240 whp with a GSR/Type R cam combo.
Finally I decided that the charger wasn't enough lol. Although the car was awesome for tracking at Shannonville and other race tracks it just didn't have the speed I wanted. I decided to fabricate my own turbo manifold and turbo the car. It quickly blew the motor so I quickly followed by building the motor also with some Wiseco pistons and Eagle rods, also a custom CNC'd block guard to help with sleeve stresses. The car made 357 whp @ 10psi and now thanks to Tony at Dynamotorsports and eCtune the car made 430 whp at 16psi with working boost by gear! Not to mention I still get about 380-450 kms. on a full tank of Shell 91 octane!!!
Well I'm sick of the car looking like its falling apart. I'm satisifed with the power now so I want to start cleaning it all up. Recently I painted the cage to match the rims and so I decided to paint the engine bay to match. I think it cleaned it up alot. Next will be paint on the outside to freshen it up.
Here's a break down of the car's parts.
LS/VTEC
81.5mm Wiseco pistons
Eagle Rods
CNC block guard
Stock B16 head
Type R cams
Skunk2 retainers and springs
JG Edlebrock intake
2.5" pipping
Ractive Tube and Fin intercooler (was free)
Garrett T04R turbo (67-1/T3 .63)
3" exhaust
eCtune software
On the outside the car is pretty much stock with the exception of Rota Slipstream wheels and euro bumpers front and rear. Carbon hood and wing. As far as suspension goes, not much. The car is all stock with no sway bars. All I have is OMNI coilovers with 10 front and 8 rear springs. I also have AVID traction bars.
On the inside I have JDM Recaros in red, S2000 cluster (all working), roll cage and a Tunerview II from hrtuning. I'll post pics of the interior at a later time.
Big thanks to Tony the Tiger and Henry @ Dynamotorsports, Graham @ Canadian Cylinder Head, eg2nv, Dimsum @ ABM Auto Centre, Tito @ Evolution, The Wheelers and everyone thats helped over the years.

I know I know....
The valve cover has been on there since I first put the car together which was like 4 years ago, at that time the VC was used also. I'm slowly cleaning up the car now, thus the engine bay repaint. I'll be replacing the VC soon.
Thanks for the great feedback guys

Freeeeeaken sick dude we clearly have different opinions on "clean"
Because that is one of the sickest 96-98 hatches ive seen in a while.
While on the other hand.... You still wanna "clean it up"
Ps do the slipstreams actually make a difference in driving? Like 0-60 times, 1/4 mile times, 60-0 distance, or mpg's?
Are they worth it?
