B16a Swap
Hey you all, i got a 98 Civic HX and im swappin my D16y5 for a B16a (sir2) engine. Ive decided it would be cheaper for me to just buy the B16a block off of a website and get the rest of the parts (tranny/ecu/axles/shift linkage/motor mounts) out of a junkyard so long as they are in good shape. I have found a Hydrolic Transmission off a junkyard nearby that comes out of a 99 Civic coup. Due to the assumption of the Civic its coming out of has the D16y engine , i was wondering if any of you could tell me if the Hydro Tranny would work in the B16..i'm just tryin to be safe and know everything before i spend my money..also, is $450 shipped a good price on a Hydrolic Transmission? THanks

It will be difficult to get the rest of the parts you will need out of a junkyard for cheaper. $450 is a good price, if it's a good transmission. It could be junk.
My $0.02? Buy a complete swap from a reputable supplier. Trust me.

You will be kicking your own *** if you really do decide to piece together a swap.
It rarely ever works out to be cheaper, and it is most definately NOT easier.
I second the notion of buying a complete swap from a reputable yard such as:
Import Auto Salvage - 1-800-962-8922
OR
http://www.hondamotorsonline.com
Or just look for the big-*** "Where Did You Get Your Engine..." thread here on H-T.
You think people just part full swaps apart easily? Hell no. They sell what they can as complete as they can, and with a full swap you won't have to worry about if the motor will run or not. Put a mutt motor together from junkyard parts or parts that you pieced from 5 different sources and see how great it runs and for how long.
