b16a obd1 in my em1 runs like crap please help!
Just purchased a rhd em1 for dirt cheap. The b16a is obd1 the whole car is obd2. The car is on limp mode wont go pass 5500 rpm and runs sluggish. The car came with a p72 ecu which I believe is gsr. Car drives but it just doesn't perform like it should. Car has vtec solenoid plugged in, but no oil pressure switch? Also revs a little weird .. Check engine light bulb was removed by previous owner, also can't find the plug to plug in my obd2 scanner. . I was told to but a jumper harness from obd2 to obd1 and a chipped p28 ecu? I don't know what to do, please help. Any answers and pointers will be much appreciated

Thanks for the reply it's my first Honda n I'm really excited... The bulb is connected to the oil pressure or something.. Cause check engine turns on in acc but doesn't shut off after 3 seconds. .. And what do you mean jump the service connector? ?

You seem confused. In the first post, you say the CEL bulb was removed, but in your second post, you say it lights up and stays on. Which is it? The OBD2 port location, as well as the OBD1 service jumper and how to use it, can be found in the FAQ sticky at the top of this subforum.

First off replace the check engine light bulb if you haven't already. Secondly look in the FAQ sticky and jump the service connector like others have said and post the codes.
As far as the ECU goes if your state has plug in emissions an OBD1 ECU won't pass as it won't connect to the scanner so keep that in mind. If that's not an issue and you want to go OBD1 use an ECU adapter harness from OBD2B to OBD1 and either used a chipped P28 with a P30 basemap or just use a P30 ECU. If you do have to plug in the scanner you'll need a P2T ECU and you'll have to do a few more wiring things to clear the check engine light as OBD1 engine are missing a few OBD2 sensors.

[QUOTE=grumblemarc;49819493]But your car aint running properly now is it?[/QUOT]
Buddy do you need something? To all concerned with his bs. My vtec is all of a sudden not engaging and I came here to ask a question. my vtec issue is irrelevant to my ecu.

I didn't mention your VTEC issue? I provided a quote stating how your statement that a GSR ECU is running your B16a perfectly is just false. Can't have you spreading false information.

Correct, the p72 ecu was not meant for the b16 unless it's obd1 with a chip in it tuned for b16a. So unless is trying to be a smart-*** by not stating facts, actual facts on there setup, than the need some time out in the corner.

Possibly people don't have a comparison a to what it is supposed to run like so the assumption that how it's running with the wrong ECU is how it should be.
