B16a making 370whp?
I read in How to build honda power book that a stock b16a with a vortech supercharger w/ an aftercooler on 14psi makes 370 whp. Is this true?

maybe, but those vortech cars are still pretty slow. in honda tuning, the vortech si(290 whp) ran a 14 second 1/4!!! i guess the power is all up top, like an s2000.

The problem is they waste like 30-40% torque in the lower portion. For big V8s with torque to spare superchargers are great, but for small motors with little displacement and little torque they aren't the quickest.

im pretty sure if you wanna go vortech you may as well go turbo. I think if you look at the dyno it makes power all up top like a turbo. Search around for a dyno, i'd go with turbo though.

Also, even if it did make 370whp @14 psi, the motor won't last too long at 14 psi. And I'm sure the reason why honda tuning only ran a 14.something is because of traction. It's great saying you have a lot of power, but it doesn't really matter if you can't go anywhere because your wheels are spinning.
I'd just put a Greddy kit on the b16. It makes good power and is very drivable.

The Vortech supercharger is a centrifugal-type supercharger, which is completely different from the roots-type Jackson Racing Supercharger.
The Vortech is basically a "turbocharger on a stick" - they take a turbocharger compressor and set it up to drive off of the crankshaft. This type of supercharger does not move a fixed amount of air with every rotation, so the amount of boost increases with the revs. That is why Vortech superchargers make impressive peak horsepower numbers, like turbochargers - but the low-end power isn't all that great, and the vast majority of the power is concentrated high up in the rev range.
On the other hand, the more traditional roots-type superchargers can only boost a fixed amount of air with every rotation, so the boost is constant throughout the rev range. That is why Jackson Racing's superchargers make some amazing low-end and midrange power, but high-RPM power isn't nearly as impressive as with the centrifugal supercharger.
Read here for more information on superchargers.
This, like PriMaTe said, if you want to go with a Vortech supercharger, you might as well go turbo - it'd be cheaper to build a custom junkyard turbo setup than to buy a Vortech kit.
And 14psi on stock internals is a bad idea - the engine won't last long at all.

you're off by 100 whp(see my edit) ~ it really dyno'd 275whp with a header & exhaust, at least the one in sport compact car (about a year & a half ago) still impressive but you should have seen the power curve...errrr i mean spike ....
EDIT - i am NOT sure what psi it was running tho (i think it was around 9~10 psi) here is a link to a guy who dyno'd 350whp @ 15psi https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=492042 with NO exhaust or 338whp with an exhaust

Yeah, those Vortech supercharger dynos are rather . . . erm, exponential.
