Default b16a compression test results

alright i just was outside changing my spark plugs with some denso platinums in exchange for those crappy bosch platinums and i decided that while i was changing the plugs i should check the compression too. i don't know if its just me, but these number seem kinda high for a stock jdm b16a sir2.

I dunno, but I always heard as long as all of the cylinders are within 10% of each other your good.

that is pretty high for a stock Sir-2. Is the head Milled at all? Maybe your compression gauge is faulty If not you probably have one of those beast motors that honda spits out every thousand motors they build

i don't know if there are any internal mods done to it except for the ctr intake cam(which i out in). the motor is a 94 b16a sir2 so idon't the #'s would be that high. i was also thinking that maybe this motor might have some aftermarket pistons that someone installed when the motor was in japan. i don't know i'll find out in a couple of months when i start the 200whp b16a build up

Different gauges will post different results. The object of a comp test isn't to show "who has the highest" results, its to look for consistency. The variation you have between cylinder 2 and 4 is not in spec. Its 40psi. The max allowed variation given by Honda is 28psi. You are well beyond the max variation. Did you do the test cold or warm? Was the throttle held wide open while you did the test?

Also, readings will increase with carbon buildup on the pistons. Perhaps you have a lot of carbon build up?

i checked the compression with the car completely cold. i parked the car last night and i did the test this afternoon. i also held the trottle wide open when doing the test. it thought honda allowed a variation of 25 psi between each cylinder. also the motor is about 10 years old and there probably is a lot of carbon build up.

Go out, warm it up, run it hard, and then do a compression test.

Its not accurate to test on cold rings. Warm it up, then check again. Max variation is 28psi according to the HELM.
