B16a bad rod bearings/crankshaft bearings?? How to replace??
Ok well long story short my b16a is knocking from the bottom-end, thats a fact.
The engine has stock internals and a no-name ebay flywheel, and a unorthodox light weight crank pulley. I've driven about 60,000 miles since I installed the flywheel and crank pulley, and say around 100,000+/- on the engine.
Here's a short video of the problem, turn your volume up.

Here are my questions....
1. Is their anyway of knowing which bearing it is before tearing the engine apart?
2. Any special tools involved to replace bearings?
3. Can I leave the pistons in the cylinders while doing this work?
4. Can a "shade-tree" mechanic do this work by following the factory service manual, or does this require skill from experience?
5. Anyone have any helpful tips/tricks on replacing bearings, how long would this take?
Please only serious technical responses...

1. yes you can sometimes tell but not always, you might end up finding more damage then expected.
2. yes there are some speacial tools
3. no you must take pistons out.
4. yea it does take some skill but if you have a book you good pull it off just take your time and use the right parts.
5. personaly id send it to a shop and have them do it.

It is very easy to change bearings, all you need is a torque wrench to tighten everything down to spec, but it is cake replacing bearings. Besides pulling the engine part.

Can you do it all from the bottom with just the oil pan off, and leaving the pistons in the cylinder?

Well you couldn't take you crank out n change the crank bearings, but for rod bearings I think you could.
