Re: (harryjohnson)
cant do it with out changing the pistons in a b20b...only a b20z can be lsvtec with no piston change. i do not want to have to spend money for rods and pistons.

which one is the better motor? b16 is stock and the b20b just has skunk2 intake manifold
well the b20 has an 84mm bore i believe and the ls has an 81mm. if u have the money, resleave an ls to 84mm. i think i read some where that the b20's arent as strong because they individual welds around each cylinder wall.
(i think it said something like that)

Re: (mustang5.slow)
for reliabilty...it is not wise to do the swap without new pistons and rods. now sum say it can be done..others say no

if you want to run cams bigger than itr's then you will need to use new pistons and rods unless you want to take the chance with piston to valve contact. stock b20b pistons are going to give you a low compression anyway so if you want performance it's a good idea to go with something better.

that's a really ignorant statement

Agreed. It has more to do with the gearing of the transmission. Put that B16 transmission on all those other engines and see how they stack up.

I dunno about that, I still beat B18B's and B18C's w/ a B16 Tranny. Ive driven all sorts of B Series swapped motors and personally I prefer the B16

Re: (DailyDrivenCB7)
if you dont have plans on building it just get the b16 at least you going to have top end power and a good tranny to get you there...but a really bad low end thought..

Re: b16a or b20b (bustah49)
A buddy of mine has an EG hatch. He started out with a B16 with a Skunk 2 Intake manifold, throttle body, Password JDM power chamber CF Intake, DC header, high-flo cat, and a 5 Zigen exhaust. He sold that setup and got a B20Z and kept the B16 tranny, and says he would take the B20Z over the B16 any day. He wishes he started out with the B20Z, a lot cheaper, easy to find, and torquey as all hell!

x2.
b18b with a light flywheel and a b16 tranny is a good setup. Realiabe torquey, responds well to Boost.

D-series motors are popular not only because of the potential power they hold, but because:
- They're cheap.
- They're plentiful.
- They're easy to find parts for.
- They're basically bullet-proof.
- They come stock in many of the cars that are running them.
- Some people just have a soft spot for the "under-achiever."
