Icon2 B16A IN 95 EX COUPE, KEEPS SMOKING ECU'S!

Hello- This became a very expensive problem, very quickly! I finished installing the jdm b16a (obd1) into my 95 civic ex coupe but because its auto, there are VERY VERY FEW instructions, guides, or otherwise people with the experience of doing this swap to just "do it by the book" over a weekend. The b series auto trans is larger than the manual trans so none of the mounts line up and the whole swap becomes a big mess because its so much different that just doing a b16 swap with a manual trans. Anyway- the point of the thread is, once I got all the original ex wiring hooked up to the B motor, I made a P30 basemap chip to put in my P28 ecu, but when I tried to start the car, it would crank but not start and as soon as the ignition was on, an electronic component on the ecu board started to burn up and it was completely burnt and destroyed before anyone realized it was smoking! Just to be sure it was the car and not the ecu, I put a 2nd P28 chipped ecu with a p30 chip in and tried to start it but i saw smoke so I shut it off immediately! Then I tried the jdm P30 ecu that came with the new motor and the car started, ecu didnt smoke, but the engine ran extremely rough and was non-responsive to throttle input and would stall out after about 45 seconds. I have not yet wired up the extra sensors and wires to the ecu that need to be run to the B motor because my D series motor/harness did not have the need for them such as the knock sensor. Could this really be what is causing the ecu's to catch fire and the car to run like total crap?

So are you running the B16A with an auto trans? What trans are you using? Did the ecu's that burnt up come from an auto car? The auto trans ecu's need to have the TCM built into the ecu.

The KS not being wired up would throw a code, but I think there is more going on here, Is the auto trans wired up correctly? Any other sensors not hooked up right now?

Yes I am running a B16A with an auto trans. I am using a JDM S24 B16A B18B OBD1 Hydraulic Auto Trans as shown here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda...item519ae0535d

The trans itself has very little hookup to the original ex harness and there are no extra wires that are unplugged. The trans is basically the same as the D series auto trans but with a B series bellhousing.

What other sensors besides the knock sensor need to be wired up that my stock ex harness does not have a provision for?

Frying the ECU is usually caused when sensor connectors are mismatched with one or more sensors.

Ok I just pulled the codes and got a 5, 24, and 41. Now the strange thing is, to get the codes, u have to at least start the car for a few seconds so the ecu can diagnose the problems... but when i started it, I tried 2 different ecu's and neither one of them started to smoke this time and I havent swapped or changed any sensors or wires under the hood! I hate it when car problems are intermittent!

Again, start by checking whether wire colors match with sensors -- all of them.
