i just put in a b16a in my hatch .the shop that put it in says its a b16a with the 10.4 compresion ratio they told me it was 170 hp. is there anyway of tell by the engine code if its a sir 1 or 2.if its sir1 its only 160 but if its sir2 its 170 right?just wanting to check and make sure ,...i know that both sir motors are 10.4 com.just wonder which one i have .my tranny is a hydro .if that helps .

well you can tell by the top of the intake manifold. if it says something like pgm-fi then its a first gen 160hp. if it is blank on top with just grooves on it, it is the 2nd gen. but don't always go by this. also the head of a second gen says P30 while the head of the 1st gen says pr3. but agin don't always go by this because they are interchangeable.

i did have the intake with the pgm stuff .but i know the engine had to have come from japan because it came of a automatic i could see where they pluged some of the vacumm line fors the auto tranny.i think its a older engine like 88-90.the only automatic engines i know(b16) of are from japan .someone tell me if im wrong.i thought i read somewhere you could tell by the complete engine code .anyone know of some sites???

well 10.4 C/R's came in the 92-up b16's.

1st gen b16a are 10.2.....160 hp...cable tranny
2nd gen 16a are 10.4....170 hp ....hydro tranny

if you have a 92+ hb, most likely its a 2nd gen b16a
unless they did u dirty
