Re: b16 vtec + ls tranny (Mr. Chainsaw)
for NA you are going to want the b16 trans although you might get a tad better gas mileage with the ls. Also you are losing some performance there the b16 has much shorter gears thus better acceleration

Unless your gonna daily it everyday, then it's not a bad idea. But It's something I'll never do unless you already have a LS trans. Get a B16/B18c1/c5 trans IMO.

I daily drove my old LS/vtec w/ b16 trans. 25-30min everyday 55-65mph. Doesn't seem to bother me.

B16A + LS tranny = dropping out of VTEC even if shifting at 8000rpm in each gear
B16A + LS tranny = taking forever to get into VTEC in 1st gear when taking off
B16A + LS tranny = having to drop an extra gear just to pass because of the lag trying to power through the lower rpm with the little torque the B16A has
Also for those saying "LS is good for boost" I beg to differ. A friend of mine in GA named Steven Evans had a 400whp boosted GS-R and he saw his ET and mph DROP when he took his GS-R tranny out in favor for an LS tranny because everyone said it was a good idea. Obviously drag racing on slicks gives you options for slick size, etc. but the theory of "longer gears is better for boost" can only go so far before it's too far.
Also this highway rpm, mpg crap, etc. is being blown out of proportion. My wife owned a B16A2 swap complete with the S4C B16 tranny in her 1992 Si HB and she drove 40 miles each way on the highway and she regularly get 350 miles to her 11.9 gallon tank.
Sure the rpm are at 5000 when you're at 80mph, but do you think Honda engineered it that way and overlooked efficiency while doing so? Lower rpm doesn't always = better gas mileage. If you're at 3000rpm with a tall tranny on a B16A at 80mph (just a guesstimate for the argument) and you hit a pretty good uphill section on the interstate than you'll have to give it more gas or even drop gear to pull up the incline. If you're already at 5000rpm you may not have to give it much more gas at all.
Honda engineered the gearing close on the B16A tranny because they knew what they were doing!
