b16 vs gsr vs type R head questions
i have a few questions regarding b series heads. i know the gsr is completely different then the b16 and type R. my main question is the difference between the b16 and type R heads. im doing a build so cams/valve/spring do not matter, im concerned with the head it self.
what are the difference's between the heads, combustion chambers, anything else i may not know?
and for a all motor build which head would you prefer? b16/gsr/type R and why?
thanks.

i don't want to be the one saying that is the only difference, in case something else is different, but I think so. The type r might make better compression but that I am not sure on either.

Bare head for head there the same minus the port, and i believe the upper radiator hose location. Internals are totally different as well as manifold(s)

Id say get a B16 head FTW cause of the price on a Type R head is rediculous. Slap a ITR intake manifold and some p/p and youll have something better than a type r head 25% less

personally id use the itr head. are you planning to rebuild the head anyway? because the b16 head would probably cost you less since you would just be replacing all of the parts.

Re: (Jakester9500)
yes im fully re-building the head, building an all motor b20 vtec. i had a b16 head laying around that i got from a trade awhile back and i have been considering using that instead if buying a type R head. i just wanted to find out if there were any "unchangeable" differences, like combustion chamber size, or some other noticeable difference that is forged to the head.
thank you all for you fast responses.

Re: (highroller54)
the actual differense between itr and b16 heads is just factory port/ gasket match on itr and the itr uses undercut intake valves and double valve springs. they have the same combustion chamber cc's and same valve size. if your going to build the b16 head then all the itr has thats better is the ports until u port match the b16 head.

Re: (boosstboy)
if i were you just try and find a cheap b16 head then build it to your specifications..if you are "fully building the head" then it will prolly come out cheaper this way

If you already have it^, port/polish and throw in type-r camshafts and valvetrain. Intake/exhaust manifold up to you.

PR3 head is a PR3 head. If you are going to do anything to it, there are way better cams out there than the ITR's and you can make more power for less money.
Don't buy into the hype, just rock the B16 version, use a good valvetrain and some S2S2's or Blox B's and make more power for less than you would with an ITR head.

Theres no crazy differences between B16 or ITR. Just use/buy whatever is in better condition/cheaper. Since you already have a B16 head just use that.
