B16 Transmission making clacking noise and idle problem
I recently swapped a b16 into my hatch and I started hearing clacking noise from the tranny. I drove it to work and on my way home. The clacking got louder and the tranny started to smoke. Clutch and/or Flywheel problem?
I plan to drop the tranny but I was hoping someone has run into the same problem and will ease my mind in hopes its not a blown transmission.
I just put in a new factory pressure plate and bearings and I have a light weight flywheel that was on the motor when I bought it.
Also, my idle is sticking at 1.5k rpm no matter what I do. I will raise up higher when I adjust the throttle cable and screw but will not drop less than 1.5rpm. I was also having a jump in rev between 1k-2k rpm. I changed the IACV with no luck.

really sounds like a clutch problem to me... I can't think of anything else in the tranny that would smoke. Make sure you have it all put together right.
The throttle cable doesn't adjust your idle, it adjusts your throttle. To adjust your idle, there's a small screw in the throttle body. OEM spec is between like 750 and 800. If you have a bouncing idle though, I would advise figuring that out first.
Check for vacuum leaks. That's the most common and obvious cause.
Re-bleed the coolant. Air pockets in the coolant will cause hunting idle.
Both of the above are common after a swap.
You can also try cleaning the throttle body. That has helped me before.

Re: B16 Transmission making clacking noise and idle problem
Thanks for the help. Transmission is down and tomorrow I plan to remove the clutch and check to make sure everything is installed correctly.
I have a Jackson Racing Super Charger installed. There must be a vacuum leak some where thats causing the idle problem. The TB screw is adjusted all the way down so It's not that. I'll try cleaning the TB and see what happens. I also installed a new IACV but I can't test it till I figure out whats wrong with the clutch. I'll try re-bleeding the coolant also.
Thanks again
