a few years ago i had the notorious 3rd gear grind happen in my 00 Si. So i pulled the trans and had a stg 3 ceramic clutch and all carbon coated synchros installed. since then ive put on about 25000 miles. 1000 miles ago i pulled the trans again and decided to put a new oem exedy clutch and oem flywheel in to make city driving more enjoyable. i also had the tranny inspected to ensure all was well...everything turned out great. keep in mind i do not beat my car. well ive alwasy had 3rd gear feel some what notchy, even after the new synchros and being inspected again just a few months ago. i also put a new Skunk2 shifter, new shifter ball seat, and ES urathane stabalizer bushings in. this eliminated alot of the shifter play...there still is some play due to the bushings up front by the spring pin being worn out. since i put the new shifter in, the notchy 3rd gear has felt alot better and almost goes away completely when the trans is hot and i pay attention to my shifts. i am running the new honda mtf. do u think i can cure my problem by using gm synchromesh(now ac delco)? and will replacing those front linkage bushings in the shift rod help also? i know people say synchromesh is a band aid, but there shouldnt be anything wrong with my 3rd synchro and ive heard greast results from synchromesh users. it doesnt grind going into 3rd, just feels notchy going in since your going in from an angle. sorry for the long post, just want every detail touched so i dont get the answer " you need ur trans rebuilt or its your synchros." any input on this?? i ordered up some friction modified so I'll have to see how it works in the tranny.
