b16 swap speedometer not working, no vtec, CEL please help
I have a 97 civic ex that i just did a jdm obd2 b16 swap on, using the p2t ecu... since the swap the speedometer hasn't been working and doesn't feel like vtec is kicking in yet it revs over 8,000.. I have already tried replacing the speed sensor and still have the CEL and still no speedometer, is it possible i have a short in the vss wiring somewhere and if so does anyone have a obd2a pinout and a schematic to straight wire the vss?

Just for info....vtec will not pop if your speedon is unplugged. Check the plug on the speed sensor make sure its good, and check all the wiring going to your dizzy. Hope that helps.

check vss, get new ecu, ecu from an OBD2B car will not function properly on an OBD2A car(which yours is). I am also curious as to how vtec wont engage if your speedo is not working, doesnt vtec operate off of oil pressure and not speed?

In my service maunal, it says for vtec to engauge certain requirements have to be met: certain rpm, above certain speed, certain coolant temp, and oil pressure i believe.

If you use that ECU it will engage VTEC at around 4400-4600 rpm I believe. Early VTEC may sound good, but it's not in this case. The B16A has a VTEC engagement point at about 5600 because that's where it needs to be. The torque of a B18C1 on the low rpm lobes falls off earlier so it's VTEC point is lower in the rpm.

My speedo wasn't working for the longest time and I didn't have vtec either. It ended up being a fuse. We didn't bother really checking it but when a friend was helping me put my ACT clutch in we checked the fuses and yup it was a blown fuse. I had everyone confused. I took it to shops to see what they thought and no one had an idea. Rewired all my grounds and everything...
