B16 Swap With problems.... I need some help!!!
'94 Civic EX
2000 B16A2 Swap (OBD1)
No P/S, No A/C
Honda N1 Endro Crank Pulley
JE 9:1 Pistons
SRP Rods
Intake
Apex-i WS Cat. Back (stock Cat.)
Brand New Chipped ECU (9000Rpm/5200Vtec)
Car is hard to start, turns over many times before roughly starting.
When it starts it sits at 2000rpm, when its in open loop it sits at 1100-1200rpms.
Idler screw is set in all the way.
Messed with dist. position, did not help.
CEL Codes 1 and 6.
Replaced both o2 and water temp sensor.
Reset ECU and still got code 1 and 6 (tired multiple times to clear it).
Replaced:
Rotor
Dist. Cap
Spark plugs (NKG)
PCV Valve
Vtec will not engage (I believe due to the CEL code 6).
Small amount of white smoke (doesn't smell like oil) from valve cover breather.
Definitely has pickup but no Vtec.
Small amount of white smoke in exhaust when rev-ed high.
What do you think.... I want my Civic to run right!!!! Please Help!!!

check for continuity in the wiring harness between the sensor side of the plugs and the ecu.... sounds like a wiring problem.

do what he said.
also what ecu ar you running with what fuel map ?
you could be getting alot of fuel into your motor making it have a hard start.

im running kinda rich here so you say if i have an odb1 map sensor (external) would i be burning the correct amount of fuel? sorry to jump right in... but im just curious...sorry for jacking your thread, i have a odb1 engine with a odb2 throttle body

Its a b16a2 from a 2000 but it was a switch over to run obd1.... it worked very well, then the pistons rods were put in and engine rebuilt..... now i cant seem to get it running right again.
Its a p28 from ecuhacker.
stock fule map for b16.
remember, It worked perfectly befor pistons and rods were installed, but they are not whats messing it up...I cant think of anyhting else.... but I will try what you guys said and let you know what I find out.... any other info would be great.

Re: B16 Swap With problems.... I need some help!!! (Slopoke)
vacuum lines are fucked up somewhere.... thats the idle, and starting problem... check your oil for antifreeze.... you (or whomever did the pistons) may have installed teh vacuum/coolant lines wrong.

no coolant/oil mixed. period. someone on here said "try unplugging the connector on the iacv. if the idle doesnt drop to approx. 500rpm, you'll most likely have to replace the iacv. remember the ect and iacv have a close relationship as far as general runnability issues are concerned." any ideas on that?

Re: B16 Swap With problems.... I need some help!!! (Puller)
I had a similar problem with idle with my b18b swap when first starting it up. Check your map sensor. I also got the 02 sensor code, but it turned out to be the map sensor.
Keep in mind the basics. She needs fuel, she needs spark, she wants compression. Do a compression test. Post the numbers! That will tell us if something internally is messed up.

"Check your map sensor."
How? anyone?
unpluged IAC and it dropped... so thats good....
now if I rase the rpms by like 100 it will loop 2-300 rpms.. but if I give it more gas it stops looping....
I am so confused, this car hates me.

if you do not know what these things are, try taking it to a honda dealership or reputable shop?? just an idea. 50 or 100 bucks to get it looked at is worth it.... good luck man

around here, if you have as mush as an intake on your honda, they wont touch it.... I tried to have them help me out and they said:
"You cant put a B16A2 into a 94 civic, its impossible...." <- as they were looking at it in my car.
"we wont touch anything that has been modified" <- and all I wanted is for them to scan my ECU. I dont like the delarships much, they have been anything but helpful.

Re: B16 Swap With problems.... I need some help!!! (civicvteckid)
What I did to resolve my similar problem is first disconnected battery, then unplugged map sensor harness completely, checked firing order, checked all spark related issues. ALL. Then hooked battery back up, started car (with no map), ran like **** obviously, turned off, disconnected battery, reconnected map, connect battery. Voila. No codes, ran smooth. I know this seems odd, but there is something peculiar about the honda map sensors... Try it...
Hmm, however.... I didn't have multiple codes. Get those codes cleared priority #1.
EDIT: and you DID check the compression for sure? Check that cylinder compression if internals were done...
EDIT2: How do you have an OBD1 B16a2. I'm assuming you are using some parts from the 94 motor? What parts?
Edit3: Sorry... Just read that you converted it over to OBD1. Check all parts related to the changeover, and double check them again. Also, do you have another ecu to try? If that ECU was recently socketed and/or chipped, you may have a culprit there. There are some hack job "professional" chippers out there that couldn't put a mod chip in a ps2 if they tried.... I'm one of em.... And that's why I don't chip ecu's

on the back of the intake manifold there is a vacum port. typicaly this is plugged or connected to a powersteering line. check to see if its unplugged this might be the source of the wierd idle. cap it off or plug it up with something.

WTF? there is no connection between the i/m vaccum system and the p/s system. i would try another ecu...

This is very true..... I have used other ECU w/ no prob. I have an extra one in my grage so I am going to try that.
I am getting code #1.... I replaced the o2, is it possible that it could be throwing that code b/c of the MAP.
There are only 2 sesnors that are not brand new.... the coolent temp on the thrmostat and the MAP, everyhting eles i have replaced in my desprit attempt to get the bitch runnin right.
Today I am going to throw in a new temp sens @ the thremostat.... see if that clears up the code 6 b/c i have replced the one on the block already..... I dont ahve time to get a new MAP today but I will this week end...
AND I HAVE A MEETING WITH THE WYOTech REP. Today!!!!!!!! I cant wait.
