B16 sitting on engine stand what should I attend to?

Sorry for the noob post but I have been using the search feature all week and checking out all the FAQ's and DIY threads and there has been a lot of helpful info. I just recently acquired a B16A out of a 97 Del Sol and have it sitting on an engine stand. Can you guys give me some recommendations on what I should really change while its out of the car. Im not really talking performance mods as that is down the road. I mean more of refreshing and maintenance mods. Maybe a few performance mods and any DIY mods. So far I have...

Painted Stock Valve Cover (old one was chipped away)
Bought New Plugs
Brakleen the whole motor
Bought new oil filter

So what else should I really look into doing right now that would help me out. If there was a thread about this already sorry but I didnt see it while searching

well wtf are u spending money or what? replace IM with ITB(indiv throttle body) and get a nice header on there, replace cam gears, um .. paint valve cover if you want, um .. new fuel rail, theres so much stuff its not even good, just research some, check for leaks and all of that.

I meant more like is there anything I should really look into changing? The motor has 37.4k miles on it. I am building this car to be my daily driver for school. Im new to hondas sorry and just looking for info. I tried searching but couldnt find a thread about this. Going to keep looking I guess it has to be out there.

don't waste your money on cam gears...or ITB''s, or a fuel rail stock is fine

replace
tbelt
waterpump
valve cover gasket
vtec gasket
spark plugs
dizzy cap and rotor
new alt belt
put a ctr crank pulley on it
get a decent header

DONE

I would replace the head gasket.

If a compression test yields decent results, then replacing the head gasket would only be wasteful.

i would replace the cam seals and front end seal as well. You don't won't to put a new timming belt and have them start leaking all over it down the road. You might want to buy one of those str dual o-ring cam plugs that go by the vtec solenoid (there like 25$)

Clean up your bay while the engine is out, or paint it, if the situation calls for it. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by chad &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">replace

Change all of your belts as well (alternator, ps, ac)...and have your alternator tested. If you need a new one might as well do it now. Inspect your pulleys for stress cracks as well...of if you want just buy some aftermarket light weight ones (although some will argue they don't yeild much power). If your new to Honda's as you say, go get a shop manual

that is stupid unless compression test or leak down test warrents that....the engine only has 37k miles on it....no need to replace HG....

i know your motor has low miles so this might be kinda dumb, but would u consider a b20 or b18 block? my buddy just put a b20 block in his '00 si (which only had 50k on it) and and he's not lookin back.

B16Drag 09-16-2004 10:10 PM

Hm... I would just drop the engine as is if its only ~30k... chances are most of the parts are fine to begin with. Unless you want to be anal then replace the parts above EXCEPT for the headgasket, cam gears, IM, ITB, etc.
