B16 landspeed records
Has anyone read the latest HondaTuning mag? They have an article on page 16 featuring a 148mph Civic that set the world speed record.
The engine is a sleeved 1.5L B16A.
Does this seem slow to anyone other than me? I've had my B16A/Y21 powerplant up to 140mph according to my speedo. I'm thinking that the speedo probably isn't accurate then.
Does anyone know how to calulate speed based on gear ratios, tires, etc? I have a B16 engine, Y21 tranny with 205/15R15 tires traveling at 7000rpm in 5th gear. How fast is that really?

Re: B16 landspeed records (hondapwr)
maybe for a 1.5L engine.
Try this.
Take a built b18c, mate it to a USDM S1 tranny, 17" tires. Turn it to 9500RPM in 5th youll be doing 222MPH.

What the hell is a sleeved 1.5 B16A? I wasn't aware they had a B series with a displacement of 1.5 liters. That doesn't make any sense. Maybe it's a sleeved B16.
You should be shot for taking your car up that fast on public roads.
End of story.

odds are... it wasnt on public roads if they mentioned it in honda tuning.

That didn't happen.

That is what Dimi was talking about.
And yeah, a 1.5L B16? You know nothing about cars.

Reading comprehension my friend, reading comprehension. I wasn't referring to the magazine article, any baboon knows that it's not done on a public road. I was referring to the original poster.

Thanks for the site, it was just what I needed. 7000rpm in 5th for a JDM Y1 tranny and 205/50R15 tires calculates to 129mph. That means my speedo is only off by about 10mph when it reads 140mph. By the way, a 6th gen Civic LX speedo stops at 130, I'm just measuring out another 10mph past the line.

I've been just under 160 in my b16 civic, i have the 160mph/10k faces for the cluster, not sure how accurate it is though, but I was F'n moving. I also found out that my car tends to get a little light in the suspension after 140 or so.

Are just the faces changed, or is it different guts in the speedo?
There's more to going that fast than just gearing and tire size. Horsepower, gearing, drag coefficients, weight, etc, etc...it gets exponentially harder to go faster once you reach a certain speed.
It's why a 1500hp car can do 6-second 1/4 miles, but it takes 6000+hp to get another couple seconds.

Factory tach or speedo? I don't see how the tach cares how fast you're going.
And yeah, 160mph faces don't mean much if you didn't change the actual gauges.

Re: B16 landspeed records (adirondackR)
The article in question is a Honda Civic that was built by the EMS engineer at AEM.
They took a B16 engine and changed the displacement to just under 1.5 liters, since they were after the 1.5 liter and under speed record. The car was shown at SEMA, but not with the engine that was used to get the speed record. I have some pics of the car.
Read the sign....broke the record with 160 mph runs

Re: B16 landspeed records (adirondackR)
Some of you who posted are morons. "how can you make a B16 a 1.5 litre" lol of course you can ******* morons. Did you ever notice the b16 has the same bore as a GSR and itr? its called de-stroking. Or they may have just used bigger sleeves with a smaller bore than the stock 81 mm.

So you took a factory cluster, and made it so you can supposedly read farther than the gauges are even supposed to travel? Congrat's, you have absolutely no idea how fast you were going.

Haven't read the article yet, but looking forward to it.
160 sounds more appropriate. Eventhough I do remember that Vortech Civic running in the flats. They always have different "records" based on different setups.
Me and two buddies barried my speedo (142-143) in my 99 Si a couple years ago. That **** was nutso. Won't ever do that again. But 148 seems awfully low regardless.
