B16 OR GSR TRANNY IN MY EM1? LOOK!!!
So here is the story, my b16 just crapped out on me in my Si and I plan on doing a gsr swap into my car. Everything is fine except for the motor and I have located a legit gsr swap for a good price BUT the guy won't seperare the swap. My predicament is that my b16 tranny is still good, but I'm not sure if I shoud use my b16 tranny or the gsr one that comes with the swap bc whichever one I DONT use I'm going to sell. I've never ha a gs tranny before so I don't know how the gearing feels but I don't plan on going boost any time soon and I usually race on the 1/8th mile.
Any comments and suggestions are welcome, but please tell me WHY you would choose one over the other instead of just saying " the _______ transmission suckzzz yO!"
THANKS IN ADVANCE!

ok dude the gsr trans are almost the same as a b16, not much of a diff at all and dont let anyone tell you other wise because i had a b16 trans on my b20 then i put a gsr trans on it and could barely tell a diff and you wont either on a gsr so it doesnt matter, flip a coin and sell tails

im looking for the gsr tranny they are built better and have better 1-4 ratios the b16 is better suited for drag racing, is your into that the go with b16, in your more into handling and road racing (disclaimer : racing should only be performed by trained poeple on closed courses) then go with the gsr
imo gsr better deal, it will be easy to sell the b16 tranny to help offset the extra cost of the swap

I am sorry, but I will disagree with you on that one, I had all the trannies including a 98spec jdm type r and the feel of this its very similar to a b16 not the same but close
this will help you understand transmission gear ratios final drives and tire size

then again......what does better mean in this case
GsR......has better gas milage then b16
internals are basically the same, syncros, sleeves, bearings, only difference is the differentials, and of course 2nd,3rd,4th,5th
both trannies are good but it all depends what your goal is

if you daily drive this car and you drive on the highway (around 60mph) go with the GSR transmission so you arent SCREAMING down the freeway lol. i like mine.

If I remember correctly, the GSR uses a different differential than the B16, thus it's slightly better. Same seals, syncros, etc otherwise.
The gearing of the GSR is nice, I'd keep that one. Or just keep both...

gsr tranny unless your b16 tranny has lsd. gsr's are slightly better on gas and more liveable with on a daily basis. in the b16 as im sure you know, at 80 your looking to change into a gear you dont have (~5k), but the gsr is crusing along nicely at ~4k

I never had a gsr but I think the final drive is slightly longer.
Both are good it just depends what you want, I would keep the b16 tranny because I like short gears and they work well where I live and drive around. But a gsr might be better for more highway and stuff.

I have also heard about the diff difference between gsr and b16 trannys, whether or not one is better i cannot speak to.
get the tranny that is in the best shape for the right money.

and the gsr trans will only have better gas millage is because its the oe trans for that motor, the gas millage could be close to the same between factory Si and GSR because the ratios are made to compensate for the displacement of the motor

But on the performance side of things, which would be more suited for track use at the 1/8th?
And no it's a non-LSD usdm b16... We weren't lucky enough to be graced with the "good ****" like japan ugh haha

Quicker acceleration to make up for the torqueless 1.6 lol but I guess what they say is true, no REPLACEMENT for DISPLACEMENT haha

he means if you do alot of highway with it that 4k at 70 is just annoying sometimes. well short gears do that.
on the performance. go buy a LSD put it in the trans and keep the b16. since shorter gears quicker accel and its only an 1/8th.

Re: B16 OR GSR TRANNY IN MY EM1? LOOK!!!
What exactly do you mean when you say "more liveable with"? the b16 isn't terrible to drive and I don't consider it to be a hassle until I get on the highway which sucks because you can be doin the speedlimit and feel like your bout to hit vtec bc 5th is geared UNECESSIARILY high for an "economy car"
