B16 gearing ideas
Ok i'm almost done building a JDM b16 Sir2 for boost. I have the y21 hydro tranny with LSD. Now i'm a 5th quarter student at NEIT for automotive technology, and i figure since i have tranny's next quarter, i might as well play with the y21.
First of all it is dirty as hell and i can't get it clean. So i figure i'll rip the guts out and send it to be cleaned.
Secondly, i'll inspect it for any wear, and replace what needs replacing (expecting to hold up to 400 hp)
Lastly, i want to change some of the gearing. The b16's gearing is stupid short, esp. compared to my d16y8 tranny. Plus i commute a good ammount and i don't feel like spinning 3700 rpm at 70mph
I've heard you can swap in an LS 5th gear. What is needed to do this. I've been studying the tranny and schematics for a while, doesn't seem too difficult, but what will i need to swap the gear? Also the gear on the 1-2 shifter fork (i believe it's a reverse gear) looks kinda worn, and majestic wants 3 bills for the whole assembly Anyone know a quick fix? I figure it's probably chewed since reverse isn't synchro'd and everyone grinds it.
