B16 Gear Grind

B16 Gear Grind
Hi HT. I have a 99 EL with a B16A2 from an EM1 and which ever transmission would have came with the said B16A2 (not sure the exact code, it is very shorted geared, I don't think is has an LSD)
Lately I have had a very light grind going into 5th, no problems coming out of 5th, every other gear is good going in and out. I recently drained the old MTF (looked fine while it was coming out) and refilled it with Redline 75W90 NS GL-5 Gear Oil it was what the parts counter person said was for my car, we were going off an SiR in the parts computer and not an EL. After the drain and fill the transmission felt great, that was roughly 3500 kilometers ago. The grind occurs now roughly about 3500 kilometers after changing the fluid, but when going into 5th anything before 75-80 KM/H there is no grind and feels like new.
A few things that may be affecting the way the car shifts are, the shifter has a lot of side to side play in it and feels far from tight even while in gear, in the future I would like to take a look and likely replace the shift linkage bushing.
Recently we have had some warmer weather where I live and when this weather started to hit I noticed the engagement point of the clutch has crept up higher and higher, it is fairly close to the top of the pedal, no slippage and is putting power down good. I plan to try adjusting the clutch and maybe flushing and bleeding the brake fluid to get any old fluid and air out.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post, I know it was long, but I wanted to give an accurate description of what is happening. I really appreciate your opinions and would like to hear your input on any of the remedies I have thought may help.

Re: B16 Gear Grind
I would check your bushings, AND the trains fluid level for the shifting problem. I have an ls translation with a leaky seal and 5th would grind and pop out when the oil got lower..defiantly bleed your clutch to see if that helps, if not then search on here there are alotttttttt of posts

whoops I completely botched that post, going to edit it right now, haven't had enough coffee yet haha.

Re: B16 Gear Grind
Might just be the 5th syncro.
For a trans that old, the others probably were serviced at some point and people sometimes leave out the 5th. The syncs run 1-2 & 3-4.
But if new fluid has been put in, the only way to check is to pull it and split it open to check.

I will try adjusting the clutch, and likely replace the linkage bushing, if the brake fluid looks dirty maybe flush that also.
Hoping it's not the syncro, I might not be keeping the car for that long and would like to keep things on the lower side of costs, that's something I wouldn't be able to DIY. What do you think would be a reasonable estimate to replace the syncro at a shop?
I understand each shop is going to likely have different labor rates and prices, just looking to get an idea of what is fair.
Thank you for the input.

Re: B16 Gear Grind
Given the description, my money is on the synchro, and any other efforts (besides keeping fresh fluid in it) are unlikely to bear fruit.
To get the right parts the 99 EM1 trans should have a tag on it with the VIN of the donor vehicle.
If it hasn't been removed it is on the bellhousing, front side, just below the top two bolts holding the trans to the engine, about 1" from the engine.

I had a feeling it is the syncro also, who knows yet though. I still will try the adjusting the clutch and probably the linkage bushing also because they both need to be done anyways.
I just wanted to hear what you all thought about the linkage bushing and clutch feeling out of adjustment potentially creating the issue but both of those seem like a long shot since 5th goes in and out fine at lower speeds around 60ish KM/H but grinds (only going into gear) at 80 KM/H.
The transmission appears to be an S4C if I was reading the right code, thanks for the heads up on that. Anyone have a rough idea of what it would cost to replace the bad syncro?
