b16 engine sound
I have a 1999 civic si with the honda used certification. Lately I've noticed a weird sound coming from my engine that can only be described as a deep rubbing sound. It only happens around 2,000 rpm's, even in reverse. I only have a few months left on my certified warranty, so I called up my dealership and they said they don't cover "Diagnostic Fees" which I'm sure I would be raped on.
At the same time, I don't want this turning into a bigger problem. I have no idea what/where the sound is coming from. Any similiar experiences or ideas on what it could be or what I should check/do?
Thanks.

Is there any difference in the way the car drives?
Is there any difference in the way the engine runs?
Do you have a Check Engine Light?
Have you tried taking it to a mechanic just to check if he can pinpoint the problem?

Re: b16 engine sound (givemeyourstd)
They should cover the diagnostic fees if the problem ends up being a warranty issue, unless the dealership is gay. When my d16 went out on me years ago, I trailered the car to one dealership, which looked at it, then to the one that I bought it at cuz I trusted them more. I never got charged a penny for diagnostics or anything. It should all be in the warranty.

Re: b16 engine sound (nighttrain33)
No CEL's or noticeable difference in the way the car drives. I know lately I'm getting horrible gas mileage but that's something else. I did notice this, it only happens when I let off the gas around 2k RPM's... weird I know.
Thanks for letting me know about the warranty, gives me some pEAce of mind until it runs out in a couple of months... now if only I can find a way to make the warranty worthwhile
