Default B16 Del Sol. Need help.

My Del Sol VTEC is acting up. When I drive it, if I give it any gas, like, push the pedal down further than an eighth of an inch, it starts missing. Like sputtering hard and the engine RPM is totally unresponsive. I've tried replacing the ignition coil and that didn't help the problem. I'm thinking maybe the ignitor, but also that it may be a fuel problem. Any suggestions? It seems to be getting good spark.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Could also be problem with the plugs, wires, cap, or rotor.

Ifit is sputtering, what makes you think it is getting good spark?

Also what mods, octane rating, and is the CEL on?

No CEL. It's stock. 106,000 miles. I changed the cap and rotor. The plugs and wires: no. I'm moving. Can't afford it just yet.

well with the spark working it cannot be an ignition issue.... has to be with the fuel or air

have you checked to see if the stock airbox is free of debree/clogs

If it is a fuel issue, is the fuel pump moving fuel to the injectors?

Sounds like a timing issue.

Everything is stock except the intake. Sorry. Forgot to mention it. It is unrestricted. The car runs fine at idle and very light throttle. Once you give it a slight bit of gas, the RPM starts stumbling. Quite possibly the most ****ing annoying thing ever.

I was thinking timing too. I just can't find the jumper to disable the electronic advance in the car. Does anybody know where it could be? Checked the passenger's footwell, where it is said to reside.

This is also definitely worth checking. Use a timing gun and jump the service connector.

Pull off the passenger kick panel. The service connector resides above the ECU and branches from the main wire harness. See CEL sticky.

Ah. Okay. I'l check the timing tomorrow. Would it be more beneficial for me to remove the ECU to access the jumper harness, then just plug the ECU back in?

There's no need to remove the ECU.

Dammit. I checked already. I can't find that piece of the harness to save my life.

Look at Pdiggity's CEL sticky. The plug may be inserted into a rubber cover.

The service connector is hidden up in the side of the dash above the ECU. It's in a green rubber cover thing.

id still look into the spark issue it can get good spark at a idle and not have enough juice to make it jump the gap at the plug when you get down on it i had the same problem with a civic at my shop did plugs rotor cap and wires and it runs great. do the whole tune up and go from there. just my .02

It's probably your timing. If you look at your ecu and go straight up from there under the dash, there should be a couple loose plugs (almost behind the side of the glove box) the 2 pin connector is the one you want.

Also check the gap on your spark plugs since you can't afford to replace them, if they are gapped to big it will miss.
