b16 crank b18 block
my friend needs advice and i know nothing about bseries motors. He says that a b16 ratio is like 1.64:1 which is suppose to be good, right? seeings how 1.7x is the best? he needs to know if the b16 crank will fit in the b18 block with all b18 internals. is he headed the right direction or what????

the B18/B20 blocks (and B16B / CTR) are actually TALLER than the B16A blocks.
so if you drop in a B16 crank/rods, you would need to change the pin location/height on the piston... so custom pistons?
the reverse is being done a lot now though... 1.8 crank/rods in a 1.6 block with custom pistons to allow the 1.8 crank/rods to run in the shorter 1.6 block... TECH-43 -
the route to a high revving motor with a B16 crank is to sleeve and bore it to 84+mm for more displacement. you could even sneak by with a B17 crank in your B16 block....

alot of people are stroking b16s with cranks and custom length rods or modified pistons, it gives you more torque and power and u can still tell people it is a b16. even though the car wont rev as smooth as before, u are still making power
b16 r/s ratio is more around 1.74
b16 crank with custom length rods will destroke the b18 placing your power band at higher RPMs you would need a well modified head to flow air at those rpms and most likely increase bore to make up the displacement loss
honestly if he has the time and money and want to try something new he can always mess around with it
but if he is trying to hit a certain hp figure he should go with proven set ups
