B16 and 14 sec 1/4's??
Reading the thread on the for and against of the B16 engine, (I personally think its awesome! power for cc, VTEC kick, look on other drivers faces etc)
A few of you say you have B16's and with bolt ons get 14's. What bolt ons are you talking about? Are the cars stripped out?
I have heat wrapped header, custom race spec exhaust (v.LOUD!) intake with 5inch carbon fibre collector that really helps the VTEC kick, cool air piped from hole in corner of front bumper feeding filter, 60mm low and koni adj shocks.
Best I've had is 15.7sec its a 4 door, and only got 15.1 secs with the 2.0 stroker motor
(revved off the guage but blew after 15000 miles!)
So what bolt ons do you refer????

Will be fitting the larger TB off of a 2.2 Vtec prelude soon hopefully. just going to see if it makes a diffrence to a freinds 1.6 zc motor hes put in his '86 civic gt.
Do you lot rate a larger TB even if increase is only a few mm??

Re: B16 and 14 sec 1/4's?? (Nextekhatch)
OK so know one knows what the hell I'm talking about eh??
I come from england so some terminology may be diffrent. My B16 has
Integra B18 header, wrapped in heat protecting wrap to keep under hood temp down, a Simota racing intake pipe, that has a wider (5inch) section made from carbon fibre that then goes small again before going into the TB.
The air filter is fed with cool air direct from a hole in the corner of the front valance i think its called in the US.
The cylinder head has been polished and ported (all rough parts smoothed for better flow) and skimmed (decked??? in US?)
and KONI adjustable shock absorbers on the suspension for handling and better launch's and 17inch Racing Hart Concept 5 wheels.
People on here have said in other threads they can see 14sec times from B16. Just wondered how.
Hope this is easier for you all to understand now.
Thanks

It all depends on your budget and what u want to do. All motor? turbo?NAAAZZZ? etc.....If u are in a budget get NAAAZZ y0! all motor start of with these; ITR cams, I/H/E , test pipe, chipped ECU and slicks maybe u can hit a high 14 in your 4dr.

Perhaps you just need some more time on the strip. Either that or you need some proper rubber.
I know a b16a DA6 integra that runs 13.1 with bolt ons... consistently...

There's a big problem. Lose the big rims and go with some lightweight 15s (16s if you must have larger rims). The lighter the better. Larger/heavier wheels make a big difference on performance. Also, what kind of speed are you running? The times are only half the equation. If you're running slower times but have a higher trap speed then you may have too much wheelspin, etc...
The intake you're talking about is available here but it's fairly uncommon so a lot of people won't be familiar with it. I've never seen any kind of tests on it though so... What brand is it and have you seen any dyno graphs performed before and after the intake. I've always wondered about the impact on performance for one of those. It seems like it would create a lot of turbulance in the airflow. Perhaps an AEM cold air intake would be something to try if you can find one.
Sorry forgot a couple more things. What's the mileage on the motor, how's the maintenance, how long have you had it? Do you have a full interior when you run? Does that include a stereo system? Do you remove the jack/spare tire? All of these can dramatically affect performance. If you've not had the motor for a very long time, do a tune up, compression test, and a leakdown test to check up on it. Take out some of the easier to remove items (jack, spare tire, subwoofer box, etc.) because they are just dead weight holding you down. Also, since you're in England, humidity may have something to do with it as well (I wouldn't imagine a whole lot though). Anyway, good luck.
Oh, and you are packing 2 more doors than most people claiming the times you've seen. They're probably fairly stripped also.

like he said ^, go with smaller wheel/tire combo for the track. Especially with the lack of torque the B16 has, you need the smaller wheels to get it going off the line. Also, what elevation are you at?? Maybe you're ET's are 1.2 second slower than sea level. What are your 60 footers?? A foor door completely stock isn't much heavier than a stock CX or DX hatch(if it's 92095 that is).

Re: B16 and 14 sec 1/4's?? (Dave421)
I would be running 14's at sea level with my current setup. I ahve a JDM b16 SiR II motor with I/H/E Vtec Controller and a clutch.
Here in Colorado I run a best of 15.5 (5800 ft above sea level). If I was to take my car down to sea level it would be about a second difference (mid 14's)

Re: B16 and 14 sec 1/4's?? (futuresi)
about the throttle body, increasing the size of the tb will not give you any noticable hp gains. but it might increase throttle response, esp. if you get the bore tapered to create the venturi(sp?) effect, but i dont know if this will insrease your times or not.

Re: B16 and 14 sec 1/4's?? (MrVTI)
lol, I know what you mean. A few years back, I was running on a B16a setup on my hatch.
With bolt ons only, including a CTR intake cam, AEM SI cold air intake, DC 4-1 (not the JDM which is a 2.5in), a skunk2 ECU, a Tanabe RM exhaust (I know, poor choice) with a USDM ITR tranny.
The best I got with A/C unit installed was a 14.2 @ 96 mph. Not bad where I've seen a few local breaking mid 13's with minor internal mods.
I know I could have broken in the 13's with slick without a doubt but never the less, I like the reaction on the guys that were running a 1.8L.
Being a heavier car, you can still break 14's if not lesser time, just keep practicing on the lunch.

So is it a USA thing of not answering (sensibly) honest questions???????
