Default ???B-series vs K-series???

I wanna make my lil hatch a whole lot faster, but im torn between the 2. There both great motors but I just dont know which one to pick? The B series got a **** load of parts already out for it and more ppl know about it, but on the other hand the K series is like the new B for the new century. I think the price between the 2 will almost be the same. I just wanna know wats more worth wild, more streetable and will last longer down the road, cuz I mit give the car to my lil bro when he gets older. I want somethings were a guy in a evo or a sti pulls up and laugh at me cuz I got a lil hatch, and all he thinks is that I got a a fart can and intake, but when we leave that line I wanna whop his *** and laugh at him lol. Those are my dreams , wat u guys think? Can u help me think of something?!?!?!

And I already know that someone mit have already had posted something like this already so blah...

Definitely not the same price and work to put in.

The K-series is wilder, and will last a longer time (since most come with low mileage and timing chain).

The price between a K and a B is very different. For the price of a K I'm sure you could build a pretty nice B. But as they usually say, newer=betterer. Well sometimes not...like the Ford pushrods vs. modular motors but that also has to do with aftermarket support.

Well I'm rambling on about useless stuff. The B series aftermarket is way ahead of the K but the K is catching up pretty well. Go with whatever fits your budget

I'd get a K if you could afford it.

yea man...the prices are way different, buying a k swap isnt everything, you still need to drop alot of money on parts to complete the drop...i read that people ususlly spend around 6-8K on just doing a K swap....the K swap is about equivalent to a mild built B series...so your next question is, do you want a mild built B series or a k swap to do about the same power???so you decide what you might want to hand down to your bro in the future...make sure he takes good care of it too...been seeing way too many "stolen car" threads...

^^^thats a good deal, if I had $3500 I'd be all over it...

I vote for a k swap... I have a b swap in my hatch, and I really like it, and the swap was really easy... But there is no fcking torque.

I'm as much of an advocate for SOHC-T, but if I had the cash, i'd go with B/K anyday.

PoorMan's Build
Turbo D - 200-300whp, slowest off line until boost hits

Money from Parents Build
Turbo B18c1 - 250-400whp

Baller Build
K-Series NA-built or boosted 250-???

Reliablity is how you build it and the tune. If the SOHC-T blows up, its super cheap to replace.

in retrospect from my swap, i would have much rather have done a k swap. but then again, its near impossible to legalize that here in CA than it is to legalize a b series .

I would go turboed B-series yo, K-series is still pretty pricey now days, you can buy a b-series and turbo it for less then a k-series and pretty much have a 13 sec. or less car. And a b-series with the right OBD (OBD1 is the BEST) will drop straight in, no custom axles or custom harness needed. and the shift linkage will bolt right up, no cutting will be required because K-series use shift cables. and if you go K then dont waste your money on a k20a3, its a total waste for the time and effort. You should get a K20a2 or K20a type R. But i say B-series final answer
