Default b series transmission

Alright so I got my b18b engine all built up. Now here's the question. Do I want a b16 tranny or a b18 tranny?

are you planning on doing a quarter mile set up or driving on hwy alot? if you are doing the 1320 then the B16 for sure but if u drive alot on the highway and care about the gas prices LS trans would be better. LS really just has longer gears to sum it up for you.

b16 end of discussion. unless you get an ITR tranny. B16=ITR, just no lsd (in most) and different final drive. best tranny out there IMO

thats the thing, since they are such a good tranny they are hard to find, and when you do find one in good shape you will pay good money for it.

I don't think b16's gets too bad of gas mileage imo i get 37 goin 80 on the highway. But try finding someone who is turboing their b16 most guys who turbo swap trannies since the short gears are no longer necessary etc.

b16 gears+boost= the best setup out there. many are changing their minds about short gears. i have this setup and swear by it

Depends on the amount of power you are making. If you drag race the car and trap over about 118 mph you need a longer geared transmission

What kind of performance gains am I expecting from going b18 to b16 transmission?

hmm, i dont really agree with that. at the top of 4th im doing 120ish when i shift to fifth. i dont see why longer gears would be needed unless you plan on trapping 140+.

OP your car will be quicker. cant really say it will have power gains, you will just get into your power range quicker.

just look at the gear ratios between whatever you have/want to get... I'm sure it's easy info to find around here/the interwebs

taller gears=slower acceleration but better mileage on the highway/less noise, maybe less shifting and higher top speed (who cares about top speed though?)

depending on how much power you have longer gears are better. Lets you ease into your power and not spin tires all the time like these ***gots at the track do. And then they run **** ****ing times and then say oh well i was spinning threw third. And im like ya because your car is a slow piece of ****.
And once you start making real power you are actually slower because of how much you have to shift. If shorter gears were always better then why do the fastest drag cars have the longest gears? IE. Turbo 400, Powerglide, etc

The shift to 5th is pointless in drag racing. Also if you trap 120 you obviously take your car over 8000rpm's
