Default b series tranny confusion

So I've got a question and sorry if its already been covered, but I couldn't find an exact answer. I have an em1 with a JDM b16. I was told that the car had a ctr tranny. When I look at my trans, it says s4c but the Vin on it does say em1. So I'm guessing I have a regular SI tranny? Or do I have a ctr tranny? Thanks.

You have a regular SI trans, iirc only USDM trans have VINs and the CTR was never offered in the US.

Also does the VIN on the trans match the VIN on the Dash or Firewall ?

You may have a CTR trans where someone reused the original EM1 case, unlikely but possible. The cases are all the same.

Or removed the VIN stamp from the old transmission, and bolted it on the replacement. Maybe to track it if it got stolen, maybe because of a misreading of the laws.

Easy way to find out. Pop the axles and halfshaft out, and look through the hole. Can you see straight through, or is there a bar taking up half the hole? If you can see straight through, it has an LSD, and is more likely to have CTR internals. If there's a bar taking up half the hole, it's an open diff, and more likely to be just a plain old USDM Civic SI transmission.

What color is the starter and does it look like a normal size? When I got my CTR trans from Hmotors Steve told me about the gold starters they have which are supposedly quieter.

They probably said that to sell you on the em1. how goes the emissions situation? Did you ever get that resolved?

The VIN says EM1...so at least the case is S4C EM1. Its going to be difficult to determine what internals are in it. But...the EM1 and CTR had the same gearing. The CTR trans had a helical LSD. So...if your trans has a LSD, it will drive like a CTR trans.
