B-series engine swap into '96 civic questions
First off im am an engine swap virgin so i'll need all the help I can get. My budget is 3000 and I want to put a standard b18 or b18c into my 96 Hatchback.
I want to boost the car...Do i have enough money to boost it, will I need to build the engine? I want the car to be able to beat most of the v8s on the road (mustangs, camarros, etc..) Will I need to get another transmission? The b18 will bolt directly into it right? And can I use my 92 civic automatic window motors in the 96 hatch and is the conversion hard? Im sure i'll think of other questions later.

Re: Hello Tech Heads, I have some questions.
You wont need to rebuild the engine if you buy a good swap. But itd probably be a good idea to inspect it once you buy to see if you need to replace anything. and depending if you get a good deal you MIGHT be able to turbo but idk for sure, never gone the turbo route so dont know the cost of it really. You will have to get a b series tranny cause the d series will not bolt up to it.

Re: Hello Tech Heads, I have some questions.
With the $3000 I suggest you make sure you get a decent swap and work from there.
The car will not beat any v8s on the road with a stock b-series engine. Unless they are terrible drivers. Stock b-series engines are for the most part slow. With the exception of the ITR and that's mostly due to it normally being mated to an ITR transmission with a limited slip, and a more aggressive set of cams.
Why do you want to beat v8s so badly?
Please keep your nonsense off of the street if that is your intentions.

YEAH I WANT TO BEAT UP ON MUSCLE CARS! So this is the motor/tranny im going to get http://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc...age&item=30008 . I'll just boost it down the road. Will the b18c bolt in to my 96 hatch? Any tips that will help the swap go smoother?

Do you even know how much horsepower you would need to make to get you to your "goal"? Do the swap. You might be able to spank some of the older domestics.
Will it just bolt up? Nope. Check the FAQs for swap info and do a quick search. It's been done before.

Not with the 3k he has.
Even than, 3k isn't going to beat up on mustangs, vetts or other cars.
A vic? possilibly.
My dad has 2. a 96 and a 99. A N/A ITR will stomp on the 96, as long as you aren't going for top speed. If so, youll losse.
The 99, don't bother. That bitch is sideways, and turning the tires into spinning ***** of smoke.
They are geared completly different. Oh, and those are both EX state potrol cop cars.
I took the 99 out for a little drive when he got it. And let's just say that is last time I give it gas while turning. And I wasn't close to WOT.
Why do you want to beat them so bad? Just to say you did?

Id say Grumblemarc is right. Since you are starting from scratch, 3grand isnt going to get you very far with b-series. Keep the D-series in it and do a vitara build and turbo it. If you do it right you will run away from a 400whp procharged Gt.

I'd keep saving. Personaly, I don't like single cams and wouldn't waste my money modifiy one.
Thats just me.
Build a motor, and a good turbo kit on 3k? I coudn't. Don't forgot about the upgrades to the fuel system, and ECU.

Re: B-series engine swap into '96 civic questions
I've been driving around a slow d16y7 for years now. Believe me, i'm tired of it. I could scrape together about $3,000 right now if I was desperate and boost my car or do a basic b-series swap.
However, I'd like to save the money up apart from my stocks/retirement and get $5,000 ready to go so I can just knock out the swap all at once and do it right.

Re: B-series engine swap into '96 civic questions
i spent 2200 total on my swap and everything i needed to do my swap. i have a b17a with a gsr tranny with lsd. used the p28 ecu and the engine harness from the single vtec, that were already on the car. i bought the motor, and tranns from my homie for 1500. i think u can do a b series swap with 3000.....

You won't boost and swap for 3k.
I've had my car for 3 years, still rocking the Y7. It will come out when the time is right, and I can do the swap exactly how I want.
