Re: axle question (poison)

yeah basically it just stops right before that point where u hear it click in but it leaks massive oil. ive tried taking it out and puttin it back in but it stops at the same spot. thanks for your help.

Re: axle question (midnitesol)

there is a clip on the axle that usually causes this. just grab a hammer and hit it in, it's normal when installing axles.

Re: axle question (philosofy1)

u mean that litte round clip? and where should i tap it in from? ive tried with the axle nut on but it wont budge should i hit harder?

midnitesol 10-04-2006 09:44 AM

Re: axle question (midnitesol)

i mean with the nut on the end of the axle not assembled though.

schardbody 10-04-2006 09:47 AM

try hitting it on the end like you are doing while someone else holds the inner part of the axle straight.

if that doesnt help you might have bent the spring clip on the end already.

Re: axle question (midnitesol)

when this happens to me, what i like to do is install it into the hub (with the spindle still being free). since now i don't have to hold it, i can focus on hitting the axle. and yes, you want to hit it where the nut will go through.

Re: axle question (philosofy1)

ok will try and if the spring clip is bent do ihave to replace it or can i bend it back? if not where can ifind it?

Re: axle question (midnitesol)

Take it out, re-postition it into the tranny and push it in. Go out to the other side of the axle and grab the hub with both hands. Push and pull the axle as hard as you can as if you were doing oush-ups, then it will go in. Don't worry nothing will happen, it will go in eventually. I had to do the same to mine just last week.

but doesn't that mean he has to release the lower ball joint to have play on the other axle? sounds like alot of work to me.

leave the ring alone. hammering it in will be your best bet and won't take long to get in.

1992Si 10-04-2006 10:16 AM

I use a block of wood end the nut end and hit the wood not the metal.

is the inner joint housing sitting up against the tranny? there should be no gaps.

this is really not that difficult and shouldn't take this long to do. to make things alittle easier, add some bearing grease on the inner shaft and ring. then slide it in, or you may have to hit again with a hammer.
