Hello, i have a '98 civic ex and i just replaced the clutch and found the half shaft had a tear in the outter boot, do i have to take the inside boot off to slide the outter boot on?? and what about the vibration reducer in the middle/ Do i realt neeed it , are the clamps reusable or should i buy new ones

your car doesnt have a "half shaft" those are just axles....
to install a new boot you must remove the axle and separate the outer axle joint. its easier to just buy a new axle from autozone for 70 bucks....
id keep the rubber thing on the axle if u really want to get into rebuilding the axle..... but aftermarkets usually dont come with them :-\

You have to remove the inner joint to replace the outside boot (outer joint isn't made to come apart. Sometimes you can reuse the old clamps, occasionally they break. You can just use plastic tywraps/zip ties though.

X2 and furthermore if its been torn for a while chances are the joint may be on its way out anyway due to lack of lubrication and dirt contamination.
