Default Autometer Tach Wiring.

My car already had an autometer tach already installed however, there is power drainage from the car and was wondering if the previous owner's install was incorrect. Everything else is wired correctly except the power for the tach isn't coming from the Ignition 12v but somehow constantly getting power. Even when the car is off, the tach is drawing power. According to Autometer, the shift light lights up when power is applied to it. Mine doesn't light up when I start up my car. It does light up when I disconnect the battery and then hook it back up. My battery is dead by the end of the week. Please help and sorry for the long post.

Unhook the power wire from the tach and hook the wire up to the ignition fuse in your fuse box under your dash...

Would it be causing the power drain? Normally when the car is off, the power draw should be less than .004 volts. At the moment it is drawing a lot more than that in my car.

How much power does the tach draw?

It pulls 12V I believe...and yes that would cause your battery to go dead. I had a Clifford alarm on my car and it was messed up and the back up battery pack on the brain stayed on. My car sat for a week or so while I was in Florida and when I came back it didn't want to start. The battery was new and so was the alternator. I jumped it off and then a few months later it eventually went dead again. Ever since I pulled the fuse I haven't had any problems out of it.

Do what I said and hook it up to a 12v source that on comes on when the ignition is on and it will solve your problem.
