Icon6 Automatic upgrades....help

Well I hate to say that I have an automatic...I will try and get a manual swap sometime in the future but for right now its not looking like its going to happen, in the mean time I was wanting to try and sneak a little more power out of my d16z6 motor that I have. I have searched and the only ways that I have seen are to upgrade the following:
  • Cold Air Intake
  • Intake manifold
  • radiator
  • cam gear?
Im not really sure if there are any other ways..is there any advice from you guys on to any other ways? or is this about all I can do...Also when I finally get my trans swap, ill be boosting it.

thanks,
Slo95si

That may be about it. One large concern is that a cam gear setup could be $85+.
Different radiator will not matter much and will still cost $70+.
Intake manifolds, like the Edelbrock Performer X, cost $200-$300 last I checked, but do give a gain at middle and upper power. However, you should consider whether you are keeping your D-series motor before purchasing such an item - The ease of resale is not quite high for the initial expense.

A cold air intake gave a noticeable gain when I had an automatic D16Y8, it was my first "performance" modification. The issue I'd like to address is the price of these bolt-on items, to an engine you may not keep, vs the price of a manual transmission and associated hardware. I got away with my M/T swap for less than $500. For that price I could have a cold air intake, cam gear, and different radiator, but still be slower than a stock manual vehicle.

If you feel the need to however, a cold air intake will be the easiest way to gain a bump until you can swap the transmission. Cam gears will not help much on a stock motor, your stock radiator is fine for cooling, and the intake manifold costs a bit much. Best of luck.

I would say, keep it stock.. if you feel you need more power, then get a swap.. Gud Luck!

I think that I am going to keep the motor I have now, I might rebuild it, but other than that, i would keep the d16z6 becasue I dont want a lot of power when I turbo it, but it will give me the feel. Im not trying to win races or anything just have fun and have a good looking/sounding car.

As far as i know must all d series motor transmissions are interchangeable so i say change to a standard help ya with a little acceleration (but research it). Just make sure u get and SI one not DX or HX cause there geared for acceleration. Price im not quite sure about but im sure you can find some at a local junk yard. I woul honestly then save your money do alot of research then boost it thats what im currently doing.. Goodluck man
