automatic to manual change over installation

My '98 Civic EX is automatic and I would really like to do a tranny swap to manual and was told by a few friends that it's a rather easy thing to do, but after thinking about it / looking at what would need to be done I am thinking it would be a pretty costly endeavor. My main concern was making room for the clutch, and was wondering if a hole would need to be cut through the metal in order to accomodate it?

If anyone could offer a brief step-by-step (dont need extreme details, just a basic outline) of what would need to be done in order to do this change over I would appreciate it.

I did this to my car and I regret it much more than I enjoy it. If you really want a manual car, sell your auto and buy a manual. You'll actually make some money in the process. That's just my opinion though.

My other plan (if a tranny conversion would be too much work / money) was to do an engine swap and get a GSR engine or something. Would that be easier considering everything would be changed out? Or would it still be a pain because the car was built for an automatic tranny?

Out of curiosity, why is it that you didn't like the outcome of your tranny swap?

I appreciate the help.

my friend just did a auto to manual swap and he loved it for about 2 weeks now hes sick of it and wants a new car dont know why. but i was planning on doing the same thing, but then i heard that you would have to do alot of paper work through the dmv if you change it from an auto to manual. so im planning to sell my lil hatch and just buy a manual. save time/money and probably get a white hatch instead of the teal one i have now. but thats just my opinion but i say sell it and buy a manual https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif

Honda_pwns, It will be easier if you do a full engine swap, but you will still have to deal with the wiring, pedals, and cutting the hole for the shifter. I still think you should sell the auto and buy a manual. That way you'll have some extra money to put towards a swap or suspension or just save from something actually important in life. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif

MattsGreenEG, I didn't have to do any paper work with the DMV or Insurance. I'm sure it will be a pain in the ass when I try and sell the car though. People will carfax it and it will say it's an automatic but I have manual car. But there isn't any paper work involved.
