Automatic or do a Manual swap..
I've got a 98 Coupe with a auto tranny... I want to order a Type-R motor... This is going to be my everyday driver and will remain pretty much stock. My question is this: Do you think a type arg with a auto tranny will preform okay, or just hold out and do the manual swap?

The type-r motor won't even bolt up to your d-series transmission.
You can't really just order the motor, you'll need the whole swap, axles, tranny, ecu, etc etc.
I pray you're having a shop do this.

more and more people modifying their only car scares me. Please have a shop do this because I'd hate to see you out of your only mode of transportation because you jumped into this unprepared.

Did i at anywhere in my first post say ANYTHING about bolting up my d-series transmission. I'm not a ******* retard and im probably just as or more qualified to do the swap than most of the momma's boys on this site.

i'd be ordering a b-series long block, and mating it with a auto b16 tranny probably. I know what all you need to do a motor swap into a honda. My fukking question was, is it going to be a total turd with a auto transmission!??!?!

I was just asking. As the car is already an auto and it's going to be driven by my wife. I'll probably go 5 speed but i was just seeing if anyone had some input on how much slower a auto was over a maunal.

first off. relax homie. second, if this is your DD and the wife is going to drive it, then why do you need an itr motor? an itr motor performs best manual. not to sure on the gearing to a b16 auto tranny, but you will not be able to use it to it's potential. not to mention b16 auto trannies are hard to find.

In my eyes, it would be a total waste of time & money to swap in a ITR motor and stay auto. It wouldnt really be much more to just swap it over to manual.

You'd probably be just as happy with a GSR motor than with an ITR. But if you want to stay automatic, then I highly recommend you stay with a D series. Being that you're OBD2, your best options are the D16Y8, and the D16Y5, which, although it is perceived as an economy motor, actually pulls harder than the Y8 when paired with a Y8 tranny, or in the case of an auto, any DX or EX tranny. The Y8 has aftermarket cams available. For less than what you'd spend on a GSR or ITR swap, you can make the Y8 faster.
If you were talking about a 92-95 Civic, I would have more definate answers for you. Being that its a 96+, your tranny is fully electronic. So you will want to get a tranny from a 94+ Integra and get the ECU and TCM. Be prepared to cut and weld the tranny mounts and possibly shave some material off the frame rail for clearance (you have to on the 92-95, no experience with the 96+). This is where the conversation usually ends.
I'm not like these fools that talk from heresay. I have daily driven a turbo Civic automatic and found that it held 200 something whp just fine. They are not weak unless you're talking about very lofty hp goals, which everyone seems to have but never attains. 160-180 whp is a lot of fun on a daily driven FF car. 230+ and the car stops being fun.
I love the 92-95 Civic auto tranny. It's a great tranny, and they give you 1, 2, 3, 4. The later auto trannies aren't as good. The D series trannies have aftermarket high stall converters and shift kits available from TCI. There are OEM LSDs available for the auto trannies, but they are virtually impossible to get because of the lack of a market for them. That is one of the main reasons I set my goal to around 160-180 whp. I have a Civic auto going turbo, and I have a 92 Integra standard that will one day go GSR with LSD tranny, both daily driven. I have no bias toward auto or manual.

thank you suspended, thats what i was hoping to get out of this post, some meaningful information. i think i'm going to go with a 5-speed b-series swap of some kind, we went and picked up the wife a new car today
