Default Automatic Autocross

In advance: I have alredy searched for this topic and was unsuccessful. However, if you know of a thread that addresses my question please post it. Thank you.

I was wondering if using an automatic civic dx with very mild mods (i/h/e, new tires, lighter wheels) would be competitive in autocross competition? I would like to race in the "Stock" class. From conversations I've had with others and articles that I've read it appears that actual seat time is more important than the car itself. Since I was jammed with an automatic I would like to put it to use somehow. Thanks in advance for your responses. (Please save the negativity...it's uneeded.)

an intake, header, and larger than stock wheels will move you to street touring. just try it out and have some fun!! you have to get seat time somehow. i would think you should do ok, but i've only participated in one autocross with my manual dx. i ranked 8th out of 39 indexed novices and fifth in sts with only an intake, suspension mods, and wheels/tires. my car IS NOT FAST, but i had a blast. i was the only civic in my class. most folks had subarus and integras. i think i did ok, especially for my first time.

The automatic will hurt you.

Competitive? No. But it would be fun nonetheless.

Give it a shot

i think its a good start...one less thing to worry about, while trying to hit turns as fast as you can

I ran an auto DX for a season, and if you ask anybody that was there, they will tell you I did kick some *** (I did better than I do now in my 99 Si). I/H/E will not help you on a AutoX course as much as tires, springs, and struts will. Yes, the automatic will hold you back a bit, but you should still have fun. Before you start modding it, consider selling it and buying a 5speed BEFORE you dump thousands of dollars in it. I made that mistake.

Once, I was at the track in my Si, talking to another Si owner, and he said "Oh, YOU'RE the guy who had the auto DX last year? You bastard, I was so pissed that you beat me all the time"

When you get on the track, start normally (in D4) and once you get to second gear, pop it into "2" and leave it there til the end of the race.

I used to make consistent fast runs, and from time to time, beat a 600 hp RX7 that was on the cover of Turbo magazine a few months back.

Good luck

Thanks for you uplifiting and positive responses. I have a co-worker that makes his way out to camden a lot. He's got a bmw that he pushes and also a volkswagon. Anyway, I would love to come out to camden, but i don't know exactly where the auto x is located. If someone could im me and let me know that would be great! I'm looking forward to getting started.

KURRRWA...if you were to run tires, springs and struts what would you purchase? Just curious.

You could make a really cool front wheel drifting car with bigger wheels with great tires in the front (like 15' with a couple Victo Racers) and little ones in the back (13') with the cheapest tire you can find...have fun with the e-brake and your off...at least thats what I have done with mine...and I dont believe this will knock you out of any class

BTW - The auto tranny will hurt you...

My combo back then was H&R springs, KYB AGX struts, Toyo Proxy tires, Konig Villain 17" rims. It worked pretty good, but I like the combo I have right now.

This is the spring/strut/tire combo I would do (and currently have):

Skunk2 coilovers
Tokico Illumina struts
Falken Azenis tires

Remember, this is a cheap combo, but works great. There's always something that works better, but costs a lot more. Hoosier slicks, Tein full coilover suspension, etc.

If you have any more questions, PM me. Good luck bro

KURRRRWA: when you bought your konig wheels, did it have the writing on the spoke in red, or its just a plain rim. Thinking about getting the wheels, but i dont like the writing on their pictures. sorry for the off topic people

When I bought the rims, they had "Villain" in red, but it was a just sticker that I peeled off right away.

I have pics if you like.

BTW the Konig Villain was discontinued, so you gotta buy em used. There are other rims that look like the Villains, with different centercaps.
