auto tranny troubles
i would swap, but just don't have the cash.
Anyways the problem is when I try to get the car moving from a stop it moves very slow and the rpm jumps to 5k then it comes back down and drives and shifts normally. It feels comparable to riding the clutch if I had a 5spd. I have a feeling that it is my torque converter. Any ideas? Should I spend the money to have the tranny flushed? QUICK HELP BEFORE I GO TO THE TRANNY SHOP TOMARROW.

Re: auto tranny troubles (Poopie)
damn thats no good. you might want to look into changing your tranny fluid and running some B&M trickshift. it is about $5 a quart, but it is very good stuff. sounds like you might have bigger problems though.....first off check to see if you have the correct fluid level in your tranny, and follow the proper procedure for checking it.

Re: auto tranny troubles (lohatch)
Your auto trans actually have a series of multi-disc clutches with the same material as the clutch disc for a manual trans. Those are probablhy worn out in your forward clutch unit. If it was yoru torque converter it would;ve slipped in every gear shifts. Brake torque (stall test) your engine (5 secs max) providing that you have good engine mounts and look at your tach right before the car stalls and you'll find out if your torque converter is good or not.
