Auto Tranny FLuid and Chassis code questions
First off this is my first post on this forum, I just registered here because this site was recommend as a good place to go for honda tech questions. I have been into Toyotas for years and recently purchased a 96 Civic EX 4 door automatic for the wife. I looked at the Corollas but the Civic just felt bigger and more comfortable.
Okay on the tech...
The car has 110k miles and I was thinking it might be time to replace the fluid in the automatic tranny. What gains, if any, could i get from switching to a Motul or Royal Purple tranny fluid? Will the tranny shift faster, or smoother?
Also what chassis code is a 96 4 door? EK? The engine is a d16y8 corrrect? SOHC Vtec.
Thanks,
Matt

Yes you have an EK and yes it is a D16Y8.. but as far as the tranny fluid goes I would check to see what is recommened.. The question is what are you going to do with the car? if your wife is just going to drive nomal dont waste your money on upgraded tranny fluid just get normal I think dextron III for it. refer to owners manual .. I am not too sure on the auto's
Now since this is your first honda.. dont forget you have to use Honda Powersteering fluid.

Re: Auto Tranny FLuid and Chassis code questions (BatuKing)
Yeah it's the wifes car so performance isn't really a factor. I just like to upgrade things when i replace them. She has a lead foot and i guess putting on an DIY intake didn't help her slow down, she "likes the sound of the vtec" . Considering the milage of the tranny I thought changing to a thicker or synthetic fluid might be a good idea to help prevent further wear.
Honda powersteering fluid, for the power steering? Why?
I know people that have bought new cars and once they are out of the break in period they switch all fluids over to synth.
