Auto to Manual swap: BYE BYE VTEC-E??

Just wondering if after I do my Auto to Manual swap will I still have VTEC-E? Or Not? Will my D16y5 run like shit or will it run alright just minus Vtec-E? Anyway I could keep it? haha. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif (I have a 5spd ECU out of a D16y8)

You will still have vtec.

Vtec-E is in the cam lobe, you won't be touching that so it will remain the same. Like you will be missing much anyway.

Re: Auto to Manual swap: BYE BYE VTEC-E?? (GapxGuy)

Im pretty sure that your car will be running shittier with that d16y8 ecu since your vtec will engauge at around 5k, instead of 2-3k, where its supposed to on vtec-e. You will have no power up until vtec-e engauges.

Re: Auto to Manual swap: BYE BYE VTEC-E?? (Civic4less)

I don't think it will work. The 2 vtec systems operate differently with different timming and fuel maps. You'll probably get some CEL's. You need a 5spd ECU for the Y5. You can try it, but I doubt it will run right.

Is the Y5 from the HX? I thought those don't come auto?

they do it's cvt and a horrible transmission. Don't use the ex ecu, the o2 sensor has 5 wires on the hx and an ex has 4. I'm sure their are other differences as well. Get an hx ecu, you'll need the im as well cause it's different between a manual and auto, also any d series tranny will bolt up https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

You cannot use a D16Y8 ECU. You need an ECU for a D16Y5 w/ manual transmission.

You will still have it. You're changing the transmission, not the camshaft.

If I put on the D16y8 IM will I run into any problems with the Man. HX ecu? Since the IACV is a different amount of wires? What will I have to do?

You may, though I'm not sure. The HX IM also has EGR so that may also cause a problem. I would probably just stick with the stock IM.

thats what I was thinking cause I knew there are some differences between the y5 im and the y8. If you want to use the y8 im you would probabally have to get a y8 head, dizzy and ecu. Also another thing comes to mind is that I know the y5 has .2 less compression than a y8, I don't remember if it was the head, head gasket or the pistons that make the difference.

Also I got my hx ecu for free thanks to the honda dealer https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif and I asked the guy how much it was and he told me it was $700 They extended the emmissions warranty to 10 yrs / 150k on certain vehicles and mine is one of them.

Hey get me one. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif lol https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Damnit all these fuckin problems. All I want is a freakin 5-speed in there.

So what if I do keep the stock y5 IM? Isn't there a Manual and an Auto y5 IM?? Bah. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif

you sir are correct. There are different im's for the auto and manual tranny's.
Yeah I wasn't about to pay $700 for the ecu, I could've converted it over to a y8 head and everything for cheaper than that.

Yea... I've gotten a freakin really good deal for a FULL 5-spd swap for 600$ shipped. And now all these fucking problems are coming in. If I had any other model honda this would of been simple since its coming with y8 IM and y8 ECU.

specv5150 08-02-2005 04:21 PM

I used a P28 on my HX and it ran okay. It stalled out sometimes but that was BEFORE I swapped the o2 sensors. Other than that, it ran good. I wouldnt recommend it for extended periods of time. Only as a necessity. I can definately feel a power difference though. Before even with the long ass gears it felt strong. Now with VTEC kicking in at 5500, it feels dull up until then. I am going to play with the vtec xover once I get the rest of the turbo installed and see what it feels like at different points with turbo and how well it runs. And if anyone needs a cheap 5spd P2N, I am the man you wanna speak to. I was going to toss it up but I would sell it for a minimal gain.

Re: (specv5150)

I'm too lazy to search... so is the P2N the 5-spd y5 ECU? I sure hope so. lol What'll you charge if it is? This onne dude wants to sell me on e 85$ shipped... with NO guarantee that it'll work. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif

what year is your hx? I had plans to swap the head over to a y8 but never got around to it. 96-98 has obd2-a and 99-00 is obd2-b. Also another question I have is the y5 tranny exactly the same as a y7? I thought the y5 had different gearing but everwhere I've found it says the y5 and y7 have exactly the same gear ratios.

NEGATIVE...NEGATIVE...NEGATIVE

I have a 2000 HX and it is OBD2A

I am not sure about the gear ratios though

not to bust your bubble but maybe you should read these... https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1135605 https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1068464 your car is obd2b that is unless you've converted it.

NO....it isnt. Would you like a picture. I compared my ecu witrh what hondata has and low behold my 2000 hx was OBD2A. Would you like a picture of the ECU pinouts to compare for yourself. I know for a FACT that I am running an OBD2A - OBD1 conversion harness. I also know for a fact that I originally bought an OBD2B - OBDF1 conversion harness and bitched the seller out because the shit didnt work, when in actuality I bought the wrong harness..

http://www.hondata.com/wizard/wiz_civic_99.html

My stock ECU is pinned like the top one
