Auto To Manual Conversion Question
Ok i blew my motor on my 97
i ordered a used motor but its a 99 d series, 99 engine wire harness won't work with my 97, nor will the 99 ecu, so i'm having the guy put my automatic wire harness in and the 97 ecu.
The Ecu is an automatic though. my question is what will the car do if i try to drive it for a few days like this? A friend of mine lives in baltimore, has a 96-98 manual wire harness and ecu.. Would the car start and run enough for me to get to baltimore to swap this stuff around? Will the car not start or anything cause its reading it in park or anything? If i only plug in 3 of the plugs(since on a manual it only has a 3 plug connecter to ecu) will it work fine for a few days?

Re: Auto To Manual Conversion Question (devonic)
if your car is 5spd and u have a ecu that is auto and it plugs in with no hanging plugs then it should get you to where you want. just get the one you need or chip the one you have. i had a auto p28 in my car the check engine light came on until i got the 5spd ecu (p28)

it will run but shitty. you will have fluctuating idle and check engine light will be on. but should run fine

yea i picked it up last night...idle is a little futzy...CEL is on asking for the auto tranny...but its driving...it feels like the ECU is telling the engine to downshift for the auto tranny when i give it gas, so it get sluggish and jerky at points but if i let off and then give it gas its fine
