Auto to Manual Conversion: b16 Type R Swap
How difficult and costly is it to convert an automatic HB to a manual? I have a 98 Civic that I am looking to turn into a road race car but I'm not sure what I'm looking at in terms of cost. Can you guys give me ideas and tips? Thanks

My firend coverted his D16y7 to a B18b and it cost him around 2 days of time, and about 2300
and he got his engine for 1700 and clutch and flywheel and intake and wires and plugs.
Me and Him picked up most of the stuff from junk yards, you need to pick up the pedels and all the 5 speed stuff, Converting from a D to a B will be almost more then, just chaning from a D to a D, but just swaping over tranmissions.
It's hard work, but his car is so much faster then my automatic

Re: Auto to Manual Conversion: b16 Type R Swap (Quad-Damge)
Im confused regarding the pedal set up. Will I have to locate a 5-speed set up from a junk yard or what? I guess Im more concerned about the little things. The swap itself Im not to worried about, just getting the pedal set up done right as well as the gearing and what not. I dont know that much about the engine swaps much. Thanks

U can't use ur automatic pedel's duh, u have to buy some for your car. I forget what he used, i didn't do the swap with him, i just saw the before and after, and helped him get the finshing stuff, he go the pedels off some guy for free, and thats when he decided he wanted to do the swap. they are off a Civic Si, if that helps

you have to change all your pedals to the 5 speed all will bolt right in, and run your factory clutch lines you do not have to change the brake master cylinder and install your pedals.the clutch switch to start the car will have to be ran from the plug of the auto shifter's nuetral safety switch. Then you have to jump the wires for the reverse switch. Is simple just a little time.and whatever trans
