Default Auto-man butchered wiring

I bought a beater DX hatch and found out afterwards it had an auto-manual conversion done on it. The car is functional, but leaves plenty to be desired….no reverse light, seatbelt light only comes on when headlights are on… little weird stuff. Oh and about three rolls of black e-tape.

I was wondering if the labor would be better spent on repairing the harness with god only knows what has been cut and spliced or yanking the dash and throwing an EX coupe dash harness in so i can future proof the car, i.e. b or k swap, power-locks/windows/mirrors, etc…

I have searched and seem to only find people adding wires, I have pulled a dash to paint a car before and didn't find it too difficult if only time consuming. Why do more people not just change the harness for a good unmolested one from a junkyard?

Either he was a wack-job, cheap, or you have more done than just a auto-manual conversion.

I would diagnose everything before making any changes. Try to understand why the previous wiring was done the way it is before attempting any repairs or otherwise. Custom electrical can mushrooms really fast if you cannot map out the harness.

Hence my thought that pulling the dash, yanking the junk harness and putting in a known good one from a coupe and splicing in the floor harness. I can pull a civic dash in about an hour taking my time.

Change that harness with the quickness or expect more electrical mayhem.

What he said

May be a ground issue. New harness could possibly make it worse

This might not help with your current problem..however, once you figure out your main issues...i came up with this wiring guide for a swap...it might do you some good later on in getting things working. http://www.d-series.org/forums/diy-f...nual-swap.html
