ATF completely failed?
So the curse of driving an automatic D-series strikes again today. I was left on the side of the road and with a pretty big tow bill this time
When the tranny heats up alot, like after being driven on the interstate, it begins to slip bad it first (rev up high, and slowly engage like a clutch being slowly let out). I figured it needed a flush ASAP, but never would I have thought it'd leave me totally stranded. Today the car was slipping after getting off the interstate then it totally let out on me, as if it was put into neutral. No matter how much you rev it, baby it, Drive 2/3/4 it wouldn't budge. After the tow truck dropped the car off in front of my house hours later I hopped in it, and the car pulled into the driveway just as normal
I'm going to go to Honda tomorrow and pickup some fluid, but is it safe to keep this transmission, or do you think it may be really damaged and not fix the problem for long? It shifts hard from 2nd to 3rd gear as well. I'm out of a job, so I can't really do anything major at the moment. It's either I possibly fix it for cheap, or wast another $20 and be out of a car right now.
By the way, fluid levels are normal, but the fluid looks like light car oil, not red at all I just bought the car a few months ago, so no telling. They didn't treat the car well at all, I'm slowly trying to restore it...

Hmm, well, I figured if it was that bad, it'd be broke all the time for good, or the drive lights inside the car would be blinking or something, but it just seems fluid related. I'm sure driving around with bad fluid has been slowly damaging everything to some extent. Guess I'll just have to go for it and see what happens.
This car has 170K miles and it's a 97', lol, got it for $2,800 from the original owners, a girl had it

Most girls don't know what maintenance is. The fluid should be red, if its more like oil, i'd be careful about changing the fluid. Sometimes when its really old and crappy, its better to leave it in there because the tranny hasn't realized it yet. If you change it, it could fail for good.
What does it smell like, burnt? If so, start shopping for a new tranny.
