my tranny just started grinding 3rd at high rpms shifts. i have h22 in a eg civic si.
what cani do to stop this i was reading about synchro mesh or soemthing to that efect.
also could it be the actual cables that shift are loose or soemthing. it does feel a lil sloppy in the shifter

Synchromesh will work for some, others feel it is just masking the problem. You can try it if you want.

You can check the linkages and make sure they're all tight. It's likely the synchros going bad though.

infamous 3rd gear grind.

you can try syncromesh, and if the problem is slight, it will most likely remedy the problem. this remedy is more like a band aid than anything though. you will still have that grind, you just won't be able to feel it.

if i'm wrong, someone tell me so.

The linkages are the pieces between the shifter & the transmission. They're sometimes buried behind the exhaust and are usually hard to reach (which is why problems tend to not get noticed until they've worn out/gotten really loose/etc). Never heard of a worn/loose shifter linkage only causing a grind in 3rd gear though. Still worth a shot, just don't hold your breath or anything.

Synchromesh basically masks the problem but continues the wear on your synchros - assuming they're worn out now and not working properly, they'll continue to perform with synchromesh, so they'll continue to wear even further out of spec, until not even synchromesh can make them function. Synchromesh might buy you a year, maybe only a couple months, depends on how bad they are at the moment.

BTW, if you replaced your MTF fluid with an aftermarket brand, try swapping in genuine Honda MTF. I was having nasty grinds after a shop replaced my fluid with an aftermarket during a clutch swap - switching back to Honda MTF made the grinds slowly go away (Honda MTF couldn't save my input shaft bearing tho ).

my friends b16 in a crx had really loose cables so thats why he would grind a lot i would try to tighten them.

have some friends that used the syncromesh from the gm dealers but its not sythetic and they said it helped a lil bit.

but if all else fails H 2 B and put a 4.7 fd itr tranny or ctr because it has the dual syncros for 2nd 3rd i believe... anyways good luck!

Amsoil syncromesh for me. A cheaper solution and its worked so far.

what b series tranny has cable shift linkage?!?!?

chances are you should start saving for a new tranny you can try synchromesh but like others said it only masks the problem, eventually the dog teeth on 3rd will become worn and it will constantly pop out, just ask my 5th gear
