Arrgh!! keyway/ dist. slot diffs. between y8 and z6 cam
I searched, hard!
How are these cams different in terms of the keyway locations on the dist. and sprocket ends.
What issues come up on the distributor and sprocket side when installing a z6 cam in a y8 head, and vice versa. If this can't be done, please tell me why!
Are the sprockets between the 2 different? Many companies sell 2 part numbers, but the gears are identical in every mark and key location, etc. How can this be?
Please, no guessing, that is all I have come acrossed! I appreciate any facts.

The timing is slightly off between the z6 and y8 cam gears. The y8 gear is slightly advanced compared to the z6 gear. Some companies have a specific gear for each application (AEM?).
Other companies have a gear that is good for 1988-2000 civics (skunk2?). I'm assuming they expect the car to be tuned with the gear anyways, so any slight differences in cam timing can be compensated for. Hope that helps a little.

What the??? That looks totally off!
Just so you know DC sports has discontinued making their cam gears for a long time now (A few years i think?).
That picture must be the reason why.

I ran a Z6 cam in a Y8 a few years ago and If I remember right, it was 6 degrees off... so you can do it, just set it and your timing marks will be off.... you will need a timing light.

great info. I ran a Z6 cam in a Y8 head also. After i adjusted my timing, it ran great.'
Its do-able just have a timing light handy like Arizona said.
good luck!

Re: (kKdARIAN)
ok guys...this is the definitive post...this is why i was confused when i installed the DC and what started me on this...
now..peep the errant DC TDC mark...almost 5 degs advanced from where it should be...and, when on the car, in combo with he forward head slant, they end up @ like 10:30!, but the side marks are equal to the stock y8 piece...
