APEX'i N1 exhaust sounds rasspy???? APEX'i GT????
I have the APEX'i N1 exhaust on my stock 97 civic ex and it sounds rasspy, what can i do or buy to make it sound better? Header? Does the fact that i emptied out the cat. have to do with it?
Also, what does everyone think of the APEX'i GT exhaust? Sound? Power?

if you think your apex n1 is raspy, that apex gt won't sound any better......i'm assuming that your running the stock sohc motor, so yeah if you want a better sound go with what some of the others said, like a greddy sp2 or even an apex world sport.

are you running the full n1 cat back or is it custom piping? if its custom piping without a resonator then thats mainly the reason for the raspiness. as far as the gt series....their louder than the n1's. my buddy has one on his gsr powered coupe and it was louder than the n1 i used to run (not raspy, but really loud)

Re: (JDM BoI)
When I had my N1 it wasnt raspy at all. It did get that high pitched scream from 6k up otherwise it was pretty mellow.
Now I've got the gt spec and its pretty deep and not raspy @ all up in the high rpms just a screamer.
If you were running a test pipe then yes it will be raspy. Also bear in mind that the gt spec is 2.5" so it will be overkill unless you plan on making some good power.

Re: (Echo7847)
I owned the Apexi GT-Spec, and it was not raspy at all. So straight through, very aggresive sounding, it was the greatest........I loved it though.
I would definetly suggest anyone buying it. But it is pretty large of a canister
Is the N1 you have an AUTHENTIC muffler on custom piping? Or is it the full cat-back system? If its just the muffler, make sure you have the N/A one for your car, cause if you have the turbo one (shorter cannister) it will sound much different.
Hope this helps....Later
:EDIT: The GT-Spec is very loud!

Re: (Echo7847)
When I had my single-slammer, I had the Apexi N1 it had a very deep tone. I had an AEM-cai and a Hi-flo-resinator also. I'd suggest getting a resinator and see if that'll clean it up for ya'.
*edit- You cant really see.. But does your N1 look like my avatar-pic? Crooked-like.

Is the 2.5 piping of the gt spec too much for an n/a setup or do you have to go turbo to see decent gains? Also, you said the sound isn't raspy at all and pretty deep, would you mind posting a sound clip of the gt spec? Ive only heard the n1 and to me seemed kinda raspy. I'm hoping the gt spec isn't the same.

Re: (Hatch It)
Its the full cat. back and it usually only sounds raspy at WOT and at higher RPM's. Im not sure if its the turbo or n/a, the canister is around 20" long or so, just guessing! ****** sohc's!
Can't wait to b18 it!
Any one know a reliable source for a b18c1?

Re: (RED97ex)
I would look for a donor-car from a friend or from a junkyard.
I would say look for something local (so you can see what you are buying first).
If you wanted to get something from the internet... there was a poll about this just last week. People voted on good companies. Look in the archive, youll find it.
But I see that you live in Iowa. There are a number of good motor-yards over here in Nebraska. I would call "Olstens-in Lincoln" or All-foreign-in Omaha. Or look around your area and see what you can come-up with.
