Anyone want to explain how THIS happened?
So I went into target with some friends to go get some oil for my car(I really need an oil change) and as I am pouring it into the engine, my friend gets into the passenger seat and decides to put my key in the ignition and turn it so the fan comes on.
Now I used to own a civic hatch previous to my current one, a 97 and my current one is a 96. I ended up tottaling it, and kept the key on my keychain as a reminder of it. So I had 2 alike keys, but I knew the difference.
My freind puts the key from the 97 into the ignition, and tries to turn it, and IT WORKS. I get in the car and turn the car on, and i noticed somethng was wrong with the ignition. The key will not come out. It will not let me turn the car off. The only way I can shut it off was to stall it, but that would kill my battery, since the key was still turned.
I managed to get it out after an hour and a half and about 3 gallons of WD-40 later, and the ignition works perfect.
Is there any explanation to this???
One thing I do know is that I can go steal a civic anytime I want now with that key, AND I have a spare

thats weird but ive heard of it before. when my mom had my little brother we came to pick them up from the hospital and i locked the keys in our van with it running. we called my uncle and the key to his chevy blazer unlocked every door on our chevy van. we tried it again a few days later and it even started our van but the keys look completely different. weird

Re: (blackhatchy)
actually this is fairly common unfortunately. I used to own another civic before the hatch and I can open my door to the hatch with the previous civic's keys. This was convenient when I locked myself out of my hatch one day..but also worried me alot..still worries me actually

my friend's 97 nissan truck key would open the trunk lock on my 88 prelude si back in the day.
just happens that the tumbler sequence on the keys was close enough that when he had the key in there he wiggled it right so they popped the tumblers and it turned on.
I've had the best experience with FORD keys. My old 71 mach 1 mustang keys would work in my 94 mustang, my ex g/f's 96 mustang, and my dad's 88 ford truck at random just by wiggling them side to side while turning....
